Mine was delivered today. Mostly pretty good review for the 7490. The Chorus folks are due out tomorrow afternoon and then the service go live is next week. We went with 2Degrees because of the minor price differentials for the top bandwidth option. Plus we get $10/month as mobile subscribers.
We still have about 60GB left on our Skinny 4G home broadband. Which has been OK, but their modem not allowing customised DNS for Skinny is annoying.
Thanks i have received the router and am waiting for chorus to do the first visit before this i was on the skinny 4G setup and to be fair i had so much trouble with it if i didnt run the connection through a VPN i would completely stop working after loading a few pages and would require a modem reboot
also in the end i was running it behind a pfsense box through a vpn and while i still had the problem of needing to run a VPN i did speed up a lot i dont think the supplied modem is very good i now average 80 down via speedtest instead of 30
all in all it was much better than the old adsl line i had that would do 1mbit on a good day
Jessew: I got my modem yesterday and it's a FRITZ!Box 7650
wait are you sure i cant find any info about that model mine is a 7490
It's not a 7490--why did you get a new model?
Jessew:
Sorry, it's FRITZ!Box 7560.
Here is a comparison of the newer models.

Its a pity the 7590/7580 models are not yet supplied. They have the benefits of MU-MIMO, and Max Mbit/s of 1733+800. I also noticed that the 7490 (1300 + 450) is actually faster than the 7560 (866 + 450) for some reason. Unless thats a typo on the website?
Fritzboxes are excellent routers regardless. They have very good parental features and work well with the supplied DECT phone (no need for a seperate ATA/DECT base station)
Pretty sure the 7560 is shipped to ADSL/VDSL customers as even the lower speed specs will still be sufficient.
I'd be interested to find out if it would be swapped free of charge to a 7490 if you then upgrade to fibre at a later date (eg. Chorus lay fibre in your area) and subscribe to the gig plan?
+1 on them being awesome routers.
Interestingly it seems that 2degrees now lease you the modem as opposed to actually giving it to you outright.
There's a $165 charge in the contract if you fail to return the leased modem to them when you leave.

Considering the upfront cost of these modems, i wouldn't say that's the worst overall..

Just to confirm, the Fritzbox 7490 is supplied to our Fibre customers on the Ultimate Unlimited Plan (900/400), while the Fritzbox 7560 is supplied in all other cases (e.g. Fibre - 100/20, ADSL and VDSL).
rugrat: Don’t worry about DLNA questions etc, I just ran a test and saw that worst case senerio can plug WD mycloud into Spark modem without internet and can still access hard drive fine, plus drive boots up without internet too.
Guessing there would be threads if chromecast didn’t work,
So just need to know if modem rental free after first year, 1 year contract.
And if purchase $15 phone service is that the one that comes with free toll calls to landlines NZ?
Cheers.
Hi @Rugrat, customers pay $15 for the delivery of the modem but it remains the property of 2degrees, so if you cancel your service you have to return it to us. If you don't there will be a charge if it's not returned within 30 days of closing the account unless customers have leased the modem for over 36 months.
Yes the $15 Home Phone package includes free toll calls to NZ as well as Aussie landlines plus free local calls. More info here
Cheers
