Hello,

I'm looking at transferring from spark to 2degrees due to the lower price for the same speeds. I do work from home however and need to be sure that the internet will be stable so want to ask for your anecdotal opinions and experiences with 2degrees and their support/stability.

My anectode:

To me, a stable internet connection, good international bandwidth, and helpful, knowledgeable support staff are more important than saving a few dollars each month.

That's why I decided to pay the $400 joining fee for Snap when I returned to NZ. Fortunately they dropped that fee 1 month before I arrived.

I've been with Snap then 2degrees since 2009 (prior to that I was reviewing my provider every couple of years whenever I moved house). I haven't needed much in the way of support - they handled my moving house without too much trouble; and when the internet went down after a lightening strike a few weeks ago it didn't take them long to come to the same conclusion as me that the problem was on the chorus side. Fault lodged at 9:30am on Sunday, the Chorus van was outside the house at 11:00am and ADSL back up before 12pm. Can't say it gets much better than that.

In about 12 months time we're due for fibre. I'm planning on sticking with 2degrees when that comes along too. Did you read the thread about international speeds with 2 degrees? Pretty impressive response I reckon.

I do have a second, wireless broadband connection to provide some redundancy in case of outage, because connectivity is important to me and no matter who you're with sometimes things go wrong.

In summary: I wouldn't change provider just to save a few bucks, but I've found 2degrees broadband excellent.

Are you moving to xDSL or Fibre?

2degrees provides a great service on mobile and fixed line

Imo, go with Vodafone, its more reliable.

I use a third party DNS via 2degrees (have done for years) to facilitate access to services that would be otherwise reluctant to take my money. I have also used Google's DNS when that one has played up. Either way I assure you that 2degrees does not get in the way of your DNS of choice.

You're horribly incorrect here. Also what? Vodafone? You're drunk, go home.

2degrees are an excellent ISP. I always recommend either them or Voyager to people now. I'm personally with both (parents connection is Voyager). Also both providers have a presence here on Geekzone.

My 2c. Read my broadband providers guide. Don't go with the cheapest and instead go with the provider right for your needs.

MITM DNS? i'd expect far more outcrying posts if this was the case.

Maybe something is configured in a weird way in your CPE? do you have examples to show this?

to the OP, i was with 2D back when they were snap.

They were great back then, on multiple occasions i had cases that were with their noc team.

often when working with their noc, the CEO at the time, Mark Petrie, was personally involved heavily.

That honestly impressed me a ton. i would have been on that side of the fence if it wasn't for all their ops being in Christchurch at the time.

I'd still prefer you stayed with spark ofcourse, but 2D certainly arent the worst :)

As with everything YMMV, Especially with faults, everyone has a rep that doesn't preform at 110%!

I’ll be considering my options when Spark contract up.

My $10 fibre speed upgrade is ending, taking landline and 100/20 fibre up to $115 a month.

I don’t care about Light Box, free Netflix is of value but doesn’t cover term of contract, for current 24 month term 18 months is pretty good though.

I wouldn’t necessary go with cheapest isp as do value quality, but without deals Spark’s prices seem over the top, when others are below $100.

Still a year to go, I be happy around $100 a month, but months don’t have free Netflix $115 seems a bit much.

If nothing changes at moment considering Voyager or 2Degrees, a lot could change in year.

Gbit is 98$ 100/20 is 78$

If you want rock solid Internet, 2° definitely offer that. Haven't had any issues with it in the two years I've been a customer. Only one outage, and that was less than an hour. Their customer support has been excellent too.

OP’s had it confirmed 2degrees reliable and I know for myself now, see where at in year.

OP’s had it confirmed 2degrees reliable and I know for myself now, see where at in year.

If you are a 2 degrees business customer, you can get LOYM (local on your mobile) for free which means calls to your landline number terminate on your mobile. It's no cost to you, and people that call you pay standard STD rates. If you are porting a real landline, be aware that services on that line (e.g. xDSL) will be disconnected.

Other thing to bare in mind with Skinny is they don't give you a public IP, stuck behind CGNAT

My only issue is landline, and how good Skinny router is to HG659B, though I believe can configure the B to work on Skinny if not happy with their one.

My understanding is that Skinny is just as good as Spark now for network and CGNAT is no more.

You couldn't pay me enough to go anywhere near Vodafone for landline broadband. Plenty of much better options!
