We've moved away from using a Fritzbox in our office to using a USG 4P (Security Gateway). We're wanting to get rid of our copper line and have our phone line over VOIP. Does 2 Degrees allow non Fritzboxes to connect to their VOIP? If not, are there any solutions so we don't have to run a Fritzbox?

From what i understand you can only use the Fritz, they dont allow or offer access by other means. You can still use the Fritz as an ATA on the LAN side of your USG, alternatively you could move to another service like 2Talk which can work with a very wide variety of hardware.

These questions about ISP VOIP work arounds come up very often now. Maybe a sticky thread of what various providers do and do not allow, and how you can configure their routers to work with 3rd party routers should you want

If it's a Business connection it's not possible for security reasaons.  If you have a residential 'Home' connection it can be done as long as the VOIP device is connecting within the 2degrees network.

@2degreesCare is it possible to run the Fritzbox as a device on our network to run VOIP without it acting as a gateway, doing PPPoE etc?

Thanks Nick, yes, has been a long time, should catch up for a beer sometime.

I'll take a look at using those settings through the Fritzbox

A semi-related question on this thread.

I currently have a Fritzbox as my router and VoIP client for 4 separate services (US number, UK number, 2 NZ numbers). I am on a Vodafone 1Gb fibre plan.

Can I replace my Fritzbox as the router, with the Ubiquiti USG? I know that I am able to continue to use the Fritz for VoIP services from the LAN side. My question really is can the USG be used as a Router on the Chorus network?
