Hi,

I'm in the process of moving from MyRepublic 100/50 to Orcon Gigantic fibre. Just received an email which says:

Good news - we’ve booked your fibre installation.

You'll be connected on the morning of September <removed>, 2018.

I'm assuming this means it's been booked with Chorus so I can now inform MyRepublic?

Also for clarity I'm aware that there's 2 ways to do this.

One is don't tell your current RSP until the move is completed. This tends to mean the lowest risk of downtime / loss of internet service if something goes wrong or someone screws up (by accident or not). But since most RSP's including MyRepublic require 30 day notification it means you have to pay 30 days+ extra.

The alternative which I'm planning to do as suggested by some on GeekZone and some RSP's like BigPipe http://pages.bigpipe.co.nz/how-to-switch-isps-without-ruining-everything/ is to book your move in about 30 days in the future. Once the gaining RSP (i.e. Orcon in my case) have put in the request to Chorus, you can notify your losing RSP (i.e. MyRepublic) that you're moving and this is their notification. You can tell them not to disconnect you but the key thing is even if they try, it'll be blocked by Chorus since the gaining RSP have already booked your move. This doesn't eliminate risk that something will go wrong since e.g. your RSP could remove you as a customer internally and block you. But I'm willing to take the risk.

After thinking and reading some more including MyRepublic's own info for transferring to them I decided it must be. So I've written to them ticket number 1302369. Fingers crossed nothing goes wrong!
