Someone I know has a Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime running On 2degrees, and they seem to not be able to receive texts or calls at times. The signal strength is 3/4 bars, yet nothing comes through. When I try and call, it gives the "phone dead" tone, and sending a text returns a "Cannot send this message, error 38".

Yet when they call me, it's fine, and then I call back straight away, their phone rings!?!

This has me kind of baffled as I'm not sure if it's a network problem, or a phone problem.

Does anybody have any ideas please?

What's a "phone dead" tone?

One thing that can happen from time to time is the cell site serving a phone may have no spare links back to the switch, so even though the phone shows connectivity or good signal strength it cannot be accessed as there is no spare capacity between the tower and the outside world.

I mean the busy tone.

It's happening at different locations though too, so it would be a huge coincidence if a few different places all didn't have enough capacity, wouldn't it?

I mean, once they call me back, I will be able to call them back immediately and their phone will ring. But it's like it needs this "activation" step for the phone to get itself out of sleep or something.

Hi, can you PM us examples and get your friend on 2degrees to contact us by calling 200 with examples so we can look into it.

Is it all calls/texts or just some from certain numbers? Have you tried dialling the number manually?

Cheers

Will be interested to hear what result you get from 2D on this. My wife and I have similar issues on both our phones at random. I've not jotted down any examples though. We've resorted to switching the Messenger if the call doesn't go thru normally. Often have to call each other 3-4 times before it connects, otherwise get a busy tone with no ringing at the other end.

Sounds a bit like dial-up internet access, can't talk and surf at the same time, might need to upgrade to ADSL haha.

My wife has this periodically, and now I've moved to 2Deg recently so do I.

I call her, it goes straight to voicemail and she gets a 'missed call' txt.

Next time I'll phone 200.

Surely this results in @2degreescare taking a deeper look into this issue due to a few reporting the same issue here.

Collect examples times / dates and write them down

Give a good description of the issue with no clear examples the issue can't be looked into
