Just got billed $9 on my credit card because I had auto pay turned on.

I have $18.49 credit on my account, but yet it still billed my credit card.

I thought this would be smart, use your credit and only bill you what was outstanding.

Well thats annoying/stupid.

/me turns off auto pay.

I was going to enable this for dad. He's got over $70 in credit. When I read that they would only use your balance if the credit card was declined for any reason, that was the end of that idea. Seems absolutely ridiculous to me.

its $9, I dont really care about that.  Its the stupid design of it..  Ill turn it on again once my credit is too low to auto purchase that pack.  But its just so stupid it doesn't use your credit.

The design makes more sense if you consider that the point of AutoPay is to make it so that you don't need to remember to top up anymore. If you have any credit that can be used to pay for an existing pack then use that up first - but after that, if you turn on AutoPay, you can forget about it. The reason it doesn't use existing credit (unless the card declines) is because you might want that credit for something you don't have a pack for like occasional international calls.

You could also use one of the two flavours of Auto Top Up, of course, which have been around forever. This is just another way to do it that might suit some people better.
