To be honest, I don't have a lot of sympathy for this guy. He admits to using it but I got the impression he made it sound like he shouldn't be charged at all? For roaming data? Come on.

Headline should be "ridiculous Kiwi in Brazil"

As for "being asleep" I bet it's because the times 2degrees will be giving him are in NZDT which is when it's rated by their network. And as for his phone being "stolen" I think the correct word is "lost". Nobody stole it off him - he left it in a taxi.

I'm not even sure how the Daily Mail NZ edition think it's even close to being newsworthy.

I'm in full support for 2degrees charging him for the whole bill instead of discounting it... When will people learn?

He claims he never got any messages but goes on to saying:

"I received one text message when I arrived, letting me know of the data rates and such. Then, I received one email once I had gone over my credit limit of $750."

right... That is the message... Good job...

Because its a) summer and b) he probably posted it on his 'gram feed and someone at NZME follows him...

2degrees have their spend control system. Which you can set and change in real time via their app. I simply leave mine set at $30 higher than my usual monthly plan charges. So it will block any unnecessary spending. But I can easily raise the limit if needed.

It has previously saved me when a data pack expired while roaming. Only lost $10 or so to overage charges. Had previously made some calls that put me close to the limit.
