Last news item I recall was a dispute between Orcon and Vodafone on number portability issues. Orcon said that VF was dragging its heals, VF said that it used a standard system for NP and it was Orcons fault (or words to that effect). I've searched Google news but I can't find any reference to these but I think the issue happened 3-5 months ago. Orcon are running about a year behind the original schedule, they extended it when they decided to add additional features that were a "world first" (I assume that opportunity has been lost).
Unless they have changed it, VF planned to charge Orcon 30c per minute for each side of a phone call (ie Orcon to Orcon would cost 60c/min).
I think Vodafone have lost a real opportunity here. If there are 10 cellular companies in NZ, 9 using Vodafones network and 1 using Telecoms, then there would tend to be 90% of the market using VF's network and 10% using Telecom (although this really depended on advertising budgets). Alas, it looks like it'll never happen .
