I have just looked at the Orcon address checker and for the first time ever it shows Fibre is available at my address ![]()
Looking at this forum there are no threads that address the questions I have. I currently have a Genius box (NF4V) with homeline. Some months ago bought a Netgear Orbi box and that is now plugged into the Genius on a LAN port.
In looking at the upgrade options on the Orcon website, the implication is that a new contract (with a new minimum contract period) is required. I cannot upgrade the connection type on the same contract I have at present - I start again with a new 12/24 month contract. When I joined Orcon (2006 or so) it was owned by Seeby Woodhouse so I have a major issue with being asked to sign up to a minimum contract period as if I am a new customer. Way back then, one of the reasons for choosing Orcon was that they offered a no-minimum-period option. If Orcon cant offer the seamless upgrade I am looking for then I will look at other ISP options. I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has gone down this path.
It would appear from this thread https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=82&topicid=243479 that with Fibre the same basic building-blocks are needed downsteam of the ONT - a Genius box into which the Orbi and phone is conected. Is this still the case?
Thanks in anticipation.
