Orcon Gigabit Fibre+Landline & Orcon/Netcomm NF18ACV router.

The wifi 5ghz is usable but 2.4ghz is a waste of time outside of the router room so needing suggestions for new modem/router. I do have Voda+Spark Huawei HG659 available but not sure if they'll work with Orcon. Not wanting to spend more than $300 and would prefer to keep it under $250. I did find PBTech setup pages for Netgear & Asus and i was looking @ the Asus DSL-AC68U.

Any other suggestions???.

What basic steps such as changing channels have you taken to test the 2.4GHz connection? How many devices do you have connected?

Assuming your issue is due to 2.4GHz saturation buying a new router may not make any difference at all. You could spend $300 and experience the exact same issues.

I'd also highly recommend against buying another router because your router is not the issue - your wireless it. A standalone AP is always the best fix, and in most large modern homes it is simply not realistic to expect a single AP/router to cover the entire home.

Just to agree with Steve's comment, my question was to lead to recommend a better wireless solution and turn the supplied routers wireless off.

I've putting it down to poor router/modem wifi. I switched over to Orcon last thursday lunchtime from Voda. The Voda Huawei HG695 was able broadcast 2.4/5ghz through out the house and 2.4ghz into the back yard...switch over mid-morning and 2.4ghz turns to crap. 2 changes, router/modem and provider.

I been chatting with Orcon Tech staff..size of house, how many devices, type of cabling, speed test at various times of day, router setings etc...as of this morning Orcon uploaded a modified version of the lastest firmware. No noticeable change, if anything seems a tad slower and they locked out the abilty to change 5ghz bands.

Put the Huawei back as an AP. Turn off wifi on Orcon router and turn off DHCP server on Huawei. Should then be back to how it was.

That certianly helped using the Spark router. The coverage was better but also more stable. Will continue testing tonight then try the Voda router tomorrow. Would still prefer to use 1 device than 2 so once I've collected enough speeds results I'll contact Orcon Tech again and see if they'll send out a new router.

Back to the orinigal questions anyone have suggestoins for a 3rd party router?

No, having a 2nd router bridge to the Orcon router for wifi only wasn't enough of an advantage to continue with.

Both Spark & Voda Huawei routers work fine with Orcon fibre.

Reset you Huawei router & it will reboot(Voda Huawei asked for login details(choose cancel)). Connect the router with an ethernet cable to your computer.
Change routers IP address to 192.168.1.2(so it doesn't get confused with orcon's 192.168.1.1) and reboot router.
Turn off DHCP & IPv6 DHCP settings.
Now all you need to do is turn off WIFI on your orcon router and connect the 2 routers with the ethernet cable.
Done.

PS. I didn't bother testing whether Huawei landline settings worked with orcon.

Any modem/router recommendations? the Wifi range is absolute poo compared to my WNDR3800 which isnt even 802.11ac
