I’m using outlook (and iOS) for mail. I’ve got autoarchive set to archive anything older than 6 months everyday but my orcon mail server still fills up real fast.

Have I got it set up right? It should be deleting older things from the server and keeping it relatively empty if outlook auto archive is on right? Is there a better way?

Are you using POP3 or IMAP on Outlook ?

Are you making sure that you drag old archived emails into a local folder to move it off the mailserver. Otherwise if you are using IMAP, it is always going to eventually fill up. My junk gmail account is now full because I use IMAP, so have had to move some old email across to another folder so it is stored locally. The alternative is to use POP, which will clear the server each time you download email.

Check via webmail to see if the mail is getting removed from the server when you do your archiving.

I’m not even confident outlook is archiving. I set it to prompt me when it does it, and I haven’t seen a prompt yet

I never rely on AutoArchiving, is always hit and miss IME. Run it manually.

Doesn't outlooks archiving compress it so you can't search it? I just run a rule to move old email into an offline folder.

No

Outlook Advanced Find works just the same in Personal Folders and in Archive Folders, and has done so since at least Office 2K3.
I have no problems finding emails in my Archive Folders - the underlying archive.pst file is 8.4GB and has emails going back to the mid-1990s
