Hi all, just picked up myself a second hand fritzbox 7490 from a fellow geekzoner. He said that it was given from a different ISP (I haven't looked yet), so is it possible to flash stock firmware?

Would anyone be able to assist with setting it up to work with Orcon Gigantic fibre?

I don't have a phone line, is it just a matter of setting VLAN to 10?

Also is it worth me looking into pfsense or any other third party firmware?, I'm just a heavy internet user with casual gaming so nothing special.

Thank you

bah I can't seem to get it to work, and there is limited info online with setting this up, I have taken screenshots of the config I am trying to use, if anyone could shed some light on to what I am doing wrong please let me know. seems like this fritz was from 2degrees as it constantly has their profile on it.

Hi, not that farmiliar with Fritz, but in the first screen shot, I suspect you have selected a bridge mode, try the middle cable modem option

When I quit 2degrees and moved to spark I installed the stock firmware. Not that you should need to , but if you like follow this thread...

Ok so I have managed to flash recovery firmware on the fritzbox and when it rebooted ran through the initial wizard to setup.

Still not working, also tried changing to "connecting to a cable modem" which also didn't work.

I have ruled out it being my PC as I connect via wifi using my mobile and it also doesn't work, "connected no internet"

I do note that there is still a 2degrees ISP listing when setting up your account details, so currently I wonder if it's still playing a part in all of this.

My parents have a fritzbox also on Orcon so I will check theirs and see if I can spot anything different.

Otherwise I am at a loss at this point.

Got it working, not sure why but it works, this is what happened

phoned Orcon and asked for my username and password, was given it but sounded like it was made
plugged the fritzbox back in, worked after 2 minutes (without setting the username and password given)
went to the internet account information section and set the username and password given, internet stopped working.
went back and set to not use username and password, internet working again

Happy that it is working and my WiFi is so much better now.
