Mobile data has stopped working for most websites for me. Although the 2degrees website, and the App still work just fine for me over mobile data. Which implies that the fault is something in the core network, rather than a tower near my house. I can still make phone calls. And the App says that my account is fully paid up (so it wont be a user error of not paying the bill). Unable to access anything outside of the 2degrees network.

Anyone else having problems?

Edit.

My 2degrees UFB connection is working just fine. Which implies that that part of their core network is Ok.

but 1am is like best time to work! nobody to bother you!

1am work is a pain in the rear to try to fit around the general public. Personally i'd prefer it happens at like 8am, that's a good napping time.

There was planned work last night which resulted in some sessions being terminated.

And whatever happened last night temporarily broke incoming calling and texting for me. I made an outgoing phone call at exactly 12.45, and while waiting for the other person to answer their phone. I received at least 5 text messages. Some of which were notifications that I had missed earlier phone calls.

Upon phoning those people back, they said that they thought my phone was switched off. Yet my phone was on, and mobile data was working.

I have also had previous problems with calls sometimes not being received. And I'm wondering if I need to switch back to Vodafone for a permanent fix. (my number is a ported 021 number) As much as I like 2degrees, I need to have a reliable cellphone service.

I assure you that all carriers will do planned work which will disrupt your service from time to time. That's why we do it at night. Source: have worked for other carriers.

@Aredwood bit of an over reaction to planned work and as already pointed out all carriers do planned work early hours of the morning

@Linux I'm not worried about a late night data outage that lasted for less than an hour. As I get that maintenance needs to happen. And my original post was mainly due to how it was an unusual (to me) type of outage.

But I am worried about problems that stop me from receiving calls from clients during business hours. And which meant that I was not receiving calls and text messages for over 3 hours. According to the messages that arrived all at once. The first missed call was at 0945. And I made the outgoing phone call (that made everything work again) at 1245. Presumably if I hadn't made that phone call, I would have continued to miss incoming phone calls for alot longer.

Do I need to always make a phone call as soon as I get out of bed each morning? Just in case my session got terminated, or something else happened while I was asleep. That means that I wont recieve any incoming calls or text messages?

And the same problem happened again today. Successfully received a txt at 0728. Didnt make or receive any calls / txt, until I sent a txt at 0936. Then I immediately received another txt, saying that I had missed a call at 0842. And yes, data still worked during that time.

AFAIK, texting uses 3g, and even when you are using 4G for data, your phone still maintains a 3g connection. So your phone can still receive calls and txt. Maybe my phone is dropping that 3G connection? Which would explain the intermittent nature of the fault? And why an outgoing call / txt temporarily fixes the problem. (And also breaks the troubleshooting script of the L1 helpdesk)

@NickMack or @2degreesCare Is it possible to monitor/ check what happened to those above calls? Did the network think that my phone was off / no reception? Or did my phone not respond to the incoming call?

Since I have a dual SIM phone, I'll buy a Vodafone prepay SIM. And setup a ”dirvert if unreachable” to that SIM. As presumably if the problem is my phone, then it wont receive calls on either SIM.

What make / model dual SIM handset are you using? Sounds like you need to be testing the 2degrees SIM card in an official 2degrees handset that is running 2degrees software

SMS uses an LTE signalling layer (NAS) while you are attached to LTE. That's why you don't see it fall back to 3G just to receive an SMS.

It is a Samsung Galaxy S8+ So not an oddball handset from Aliexpress. Although admittedly purchased new from a parallel importer phone shop. As none of the 3 telcos or Samsung themselves sell the dual SIM version officially in NZ.

I will try to flash the NZ version of the firmware to it. But I'm unsure if you can do that when you have previously updated to Oreo. As I think that the previous threads about reflashing that phone related to Nougat.

I'm also worried about bricking my phone, As I haven't done a reflash before on a phone.

The problem has only recently started as well. The exact same phone used to work just fine on 2degrees. If it is an issue with my phone, then by far the cheapest option for me is to try switching networks to fix the problem.

However, if it is a network problem. Surely 2degrees would want to know about it? Especially as some people might misinterpret this fault as poor coverage.

Don't flash the NZ version as it's not for dual SIM handsets
