Hi all,

I have a 2Degrees 200/200 UFB plan that includes an additional /29 IP range in addition to the primary static IP address. I have everything set up and working correctly with the provided Fritz!Box 7560 router, but the performance through the router is abysmal. Speed tests vary wildly, pings to the router vary from the expected <1ms all the way through to timeout. I'm pushing the router fairly hard with a lot of rules & running a permanent site to site VPN, and I suspect the device can't handle it.

2Degrees support aren't overwhelming me with confidence and help, so I'm wanting to know whether anyone has any tried and tested solutions to alternative routers that can handle the way 2Degrees implements their static IP allocations. This connection is off site, so I don't have the ability to test new options the way that I would if it was my home connection.

I've got a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter I use for my home connection, and perhaps that might be an appropriate approach, although I haven't tested it with the /29 subnet.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

The Edgerouter will work but what you're really wanting is the Fritz!Box 7490.

What's the difference between the two? Does the 7490 have better hardware to cope with what I'm wanting it for?

Hiya,

Interesting... I have a /29 on a Frtizbox 7490 and it works fine - I have Webservers, MSExchange, MSSQL and a few other boxes behind it with no issues with speed - I have >35 devices connected (wifi/wired)

What troubleshooting have you performed and how are you testing?

Nick.

Main difference between models is wifi stack - 7560 has slightly better wifi, and one less ATA port.

Nick.

Yeah, the wifi is disabled on my fritzbox, so the better wifi stack is irrelevant. If there was better internal hardware that might make a difference though.

The Fritzbox is connected directly to a server. The server is known working well.

I've tried: different ports on the fritzbox and the server. Different cables on the two. Disabling VPN, disabling various features. Factory reset & reload of configuration.

I believe that I've done everything reasonable at this stage.

Hiya

I don't use wifi on the Fritz either, I use a bunch of Ubiquity kit for wifi, the hardware is the same for the rest - What OS are you running on the server? Have you checked to ensure the network drivers are the latest from the MB manufacturer or NIC manufacturer?

Nick.

I've tried both windows and Debian. I've also tried the built in network interfaces, and also interfaces from a expansion card.

Hiya,

Can you please use this guide 2degrees - Troubleshooting speed issues - Tips & Tricks and follow section 5. Building a bootable USB stick to eliminate driver/OS issues.

Hi Nick, thanks for your help, but I've tested this before and I know the server isn't the fault.

Can you view the processor load on the Fritzbox while the problems are occurring?

Especially if you are using the Fritzbox to terminate 1 end of the VPN tunnel.

How are the additional IPs inside that subnet provided to you? In the same PPP tunnel as the primary connection or something else?
