michaelmurfy: This is awesome! Does it show in the other persons 2degrees app now if you do one off or monthly allowances?
Edit: it does. Awesome!
Yes, the sharer will be able to see how much they have given each person, and how much of that has been used. The receivers will all see how much of that shared data they have left. As a subtle bonus for people who normally have their own data also (e.g. a child who has the $19 Combo but also gets shared data from a parent) you will not have to reset your data session to use allocated data once your own data runs out. You will still have to if you remain on open sharing though.

scottjpalmer: Not live in the latest version of the android app yet?
Not sure how fast it's rolling out, but worth to mention that after seeing John post this topic I checked app updates (iPhone) and it wasn't there, so I refreshed the list and then it appeared.

App is being rolled out over the next few days/week. The way the Apple App Store works it is available to everyone who looks in the App Store, but only pushed to a %age. In Google Play Store it is only available if you are in the %age to which it has been rolled out. So everyone on iOS can get the new app if they go to the App Store, but Android users will either be lucky or have to wait until the middle of next week.
This is awesome! Just updated my iPhone app and made sure my iPad (which I share to) can only get 5GB a month as I'm running the iPadOS 13 Beta and paranoid that it'll have a bug that uses hundreds of GBs.
I might be slow, but I can't figure out if I share 1 GB of say my 1.5 GB data, will I only be able to use 500 MB and the 1 GB be lost if the other person dosen't use it?
Or is the total 1.5 GB and the max the other person can use of that 1 GB (in my example, given using monthly allowance).
As above - though I suspect if you "share" 1GB its lost to you and then goes to the other person.
I also have some questions:

Yes and no ... the open sharing model joins your (owner) account to their (beneficiary) account so that when they use shared data they are literally using data out of your account. In the new allocations model, the account is still joined but now we take the e.g. 1GB out of your account and move into their account in a new, separate balance. They can no longer directly consume data out of your account, but only the data that was moved into theirs.
I also have some questions:
- What happens to the unused shared data? E.g. if I share 1GB to my son and he uses 750MB what happens to the 250MB at the end of the billing period. Does he keep it? Does it come back to me to roll over on my plan, is it lost or something else entirely?
There are several scenarios.
- If, say, my son's plan already has 500MB of data and I share 1GB to him - which is consumed first. I think this was attempted to be explained above, but I'm not following it (I'm getting old, its early and I havent had enough coffee!)
He uses his 500MB first, and only then your 1GB.
- I take it I cant go get an unlimited plan and share it with people with this :D So are some plans excluded from this offer?
Nice try, but no. ;-)
- And a related follow up question - does it apply to pay monthly only, or is prepaid also covered here?
Only postpay accounts can share their data, but they can share it to postpay or prepay accounts.

It is immediately lost to you, but at recurrence time only the difference to make it back up to 1GB is moved. So in this example, you lose 1GB immediately leaving you with 500MB. If he only uses 800MB out of the 1GB, then at recurrence time only 200MB will be moved, so you will have 1.3GB left next month.
However note that only postpay accounts can share their data, same as for regular shared data.

If he uses 800MB wont he still have 200MB and therefore 800MB would be moved off "my" plan to take him back up to 1GB? So I'd have 700MB?
