Hey was just playing a game of Overwatch and got put on Singapore server. It's normally about 150ms but it was 350+ this game. Traceroute shows it going via LAX. Not sure who's fault this is.

Its not someones fault as such as its a valid and working path to the site. Getting the lowest latency path to Parts of Asia can be a bit of an engineering task as NZ has no direct path as you can imagine, we connect to Australia and the US. Transit out of Australia is limited (expensive) and often sub optimal. Getting a layer2 path from Sydney to Singapore/Hong Kong is not as simple as it might sound as many of the options take the long way round Australia and that makes their latency not much different from going via LA as per your trace. Anyway, give @NickMack some time to look into it as its not necessarily a simple solve.

Hiya,

 

Our access to Singapore is via the US (LAX prodominately and San Jose) - as previous mentioned on this thread, Ping/Trace route is a measure of latency, Telia have confirmed that they did not find any abnormalities and we agree. ICMP traffic is de-prioritised and while it's a measure, it's not entirely useful. See -  A Practical Guide to (Correctly) - Troubleshooting with Traceroute & ICMP (ping). Is this game hosted on AWS in the US or Australia as this will provide you with a better experience.
