Ok we just got an electric car, and we are currently on the low power user rate, however i have a feeling this will kick us into the area where the standard rates work out better, but i can't find the standard rates listed anywhere so that i can start to work this out

as in the Fixed Daily Charge, Uncontrolled Usage Charge, Controlled Usage Charge

and would charging at night be cheaper? or not

Cheers

I was able to find rates for my property by entering my address in Orcons website for Broadband and then added the Orcon Power option. It then asked for my address again. It then displayed Low User and Standard User selection and prices.

Our Leaf only pushed the power bill up around $25 a month (charging at night), also if you happen to be in Wellington then ask your power retailer for the Wellington Electricity form so you can have night rates from 9pm instead of 11pm.

Ok got our first power bill and it appears to have gone up by around $40 -50, to what it would normally be.

Ok We have a smart meter or 3

I am curious is it possible to get a power point wired into the controlled? meter, as most of our charging is done at night which i would guess is the off peak period, so it should be ideal and cheaper?

Favored means seems to be to have it wired into 24/7 power, and to use the timer built into the car to charge it off peak. Many power companies offer electric vehicle plans with cheaper off peak power.

Will depend who your lines company is and what options around night tariffs they offer - be it controlled or uncontrolled. Orcon power may not be set up to setup night tariffs, looks like they have a quite simple offering

No Orcon don't do a night rate, I asked. i am pretty sure we got some deal with them anyway which has a term.

hence why i am looking at getting it wired into the Controlled bit as that should be sufficient to charge the car, and i do use the timer, although it is a tad pointless when the rates the same all day and night.
