I see their history only goes back to May 2006.......Perhaps best not to mention the previous 6 Econet years......

Interesting though, and about time they show a face to the name.

Quite agree.  Also interesting is the quote on the home page which says "NZ Communications is in the advanced stages of building a brand new mobile phone network across the main centres in NZ".

It's a very vague statement so I've used their online form to ask for clarification on what this actually means.  I'll post their response once it comes through.

I guess it means what it says - they are in the process of deploying a network across the main centres. From my observations there are a lot of new NZ Comms sites popping up at present in both Auckland and Wellington. I'm unsure what is happening elsewhere in the country.

It is not bad, and there are some jobs listed which is good for some. I'd like to see a RSS feed for their news though...

I'm working on the Telecom UMTS/GSM upgrade program, I've seen a couple of NZ Comms sites co-located with Telecom and Vodafone.

NZ Comms sites aren't hard to spot.. They do seem to be using the same identical panels for all sites which is rather unusual.

If you get close enough to the base station, its actually labelled NZ COMMS. The Towers and Outdoor Cabinets I've seen can be accessed by the public. Just walk up and put your hand on it, kind of access.

It would appear NZ COMMS don't care much for fencing or security. Not that you can do much unless you have the keys.

So it looks like they're really going to use that name, argh booorrrring...looks like the rumours of a Virgin tie-up aren't happening then.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, we live in a world of crap operator brands - T-Mobile, Telefonica, Telenor, SingTel, Sprint. This is surprising because a lot of mobile phone purchasing decisions are very emotional. docomo is one of the few that has had some serious thought put into it (means "anywhere")

I hope Cunliffe weighs in properly and takes an equity stake cos "Kiwiphone" has a nice ring to it (no pun intended).

Hello there,

I have actively been seeking more information on NZComms for some time. It seems that this forum is the only one that deals with news and upcoming speculation on the organization. Are there any other avenue for finding out more from this company? Their news section on their website isn't exactly up-to date...

The website has all the details on how to contact the company, including HR and other contacts for anyone wanting to know more.

do you really expect weekly updates from any company website?
I am sure the company will let you know of anything major that would affect the public via media channels etc.
