Erm I don't think this article is exactly bagging NZ Comms, it's using them as an example of how difficult it is to get mobile ventures off the ground in NZ. I think Ernie's suggesting something drastic has to happen.
I find it interesting that before operational separation, these forums were full of Roger Kerr parrots defending Telecom's property rights to the hilt. Now Cunliffe is "unbundling" cell sites, but things are much quieter. I can only speculate that those who were Teresa's staunchest allies in this forum have seen the writing on the wall and moved on to find some other near-monopoly to milk? Mobile is just such a mess at the moment, so many technologies all throwing into the pile right at the moment, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA, LTE. Then there are the bands, and various phone to support such bands. WCDMDA850, old GSM850 GSM1800, WCDMA2100, WCDMA900 I think the utter confusion of it all and plethora of handsets that have to be made has just got to people.
I'm not buying another phone for a couple of years yet.

saw somewhere yesterday that the reason for the analog UHF TV closedown in some countries is to sell off the 700Meg frequecies to be used for the LTE 4G spectrum.. Another one for the list..
