Hi All,

Some great news - We are coming to the conclusion of a ~year of upgrades in preparation for the RWC. We have added a heap of additional back haul capacity and redundancy into the network, retired a bunch of older BNGs and replaced them with higher spec'ed ones, added additional Akamai caches and have 3 remaining links left to be cut into the network including more US capacity by the end of the week. We have a few firmware upgrades to be done next week, then we are ready to enjoy the RWC :-)

Great to see the upgrades, but it'll be interesting to see how many people actually bother to stream the games, or just wait an hour and watch it for free.

TBH I would have paid for Spark Sport if it were 4K

That looks like you have direct access into the Akamai supplied switches @NickMack as at my previous employer the Akamai supplied switches for each CDN node were managed by Akamai and they didn't want to give us access.

All we had was the Akamai insecure rack and secure rack switches had a 20/30GB LAG going to a single Akamai managed top of rack 10G aggregation switch and then have a 20/30/40GB LAG coming off that.

The Akamai secure racks were hilarious (in my view) as they had a PoE CCTV camera on the front and back that went into a foam enclosure on the doors. So when you unlocked the door using their pin code the rack would shutdown (in theory) and they would take a photo of you (in theory) using the CCTV cameras. But this was a while ago so I assume everything has changed.

Or are all those ports 10GB links rather than 1GB... and if so that is a little bit of capacity.

;-) Based on our current loadings, we can sustain a large amount of failure with the nodea and be fine...

Update - All circuits are cut into the network and carrying traffic :-) We have replaced all NZ DNS servers with newer, flasher, shinny tin etc and they are now live too.
