I am on an Orcon Gigibit service. Today I am getting some odd issues. When I do a speedtest over either Wifi or Ethernet I am getting download speeds of circa 3.18mbps and upload speeds of circa 450mbps.

The line test gives speeds of download 920mbps and upload of 500mbps.

I have rebooted the ONT, the Orcon Router and the wifi access point.

I have removed all devices and only have connected the PC I am testing from.

I am using Orcons DNS and all Router settings are per Orcon.

The confusing thing is I surf the Web OK and I can stream 4K You Tube videos without buffering. Some sites have issues for example Citylinks live stream traffic cams.  Orcon only has one issue listed on their Network status which is a Whitianga outage.

Any ideas?

How are you testing? Have you tried www.fast.com?

@hio77 this was affecting more than just the Vital site I only used that as an example.

I haven't tested this morning but I will when I am up and about.

Interesting. Fast.com from my Gigabit connection at the office (Voyager) gives me 680Mbps, Nperf my preferred testing platform, 980Mbps

At home, Gigabit Orcon, Fast.com gives me 13Mbps! Nperf gives me 280Mbps which is the max throughput of my router.

Anecdotally, both my wife and I have felt in the past week the internet at home doesn't feel that fast. I've been too busy to properly troubleshoot, but it's noticeably laggy sometimes. Download speed tests seem ok, but there are lags when you click links. We are both wired into a decent Gigabit network switch.

Not scientific I understand...

Things are back to normal. Example on my phone over Wifi to fast.com I am getting download 505mbps and upload 490mbps. Last night to fast.com I was getting 2.7mbps down and 430mbps up.

I haven't tried over wired ethernet but I assume that will be fine as well. I will test this later.

In the weekend I am going to chat with a family member her works at Chorus to see if Spark sport is starting to impact the network. Chorus have a standard of no congestion but I wonder.

There wasn't anything on Spark Sport that would have put any sort of load on the Chorus system to be honest. I highly doubt it's that. On any given day Netflix/youtube would be using far greater capacity. Perhaps an AB's game, but Spark, Chorus seem adamant they easily have the capacity for 500K streams on top of normal usage.

I guarantee you that this won't be the case.

It was just a thought given that Spark has been sending messages that the early bird subs were ending very soon and though maybe a last minute rush and folks jumping on to test it causing a wobble in the matrix
