Should I be able to do a Traceroute to the 2 degrees DNS servers? as I can't..

Also quite oddly I can't speediest to ChCH Nperf server, but I can to Akld Server?

Reason I am doing this.. as I am getting intermittent speed perf.. and I am on 1gb connection.. eg 50mb down and 300mb u

traceroute to 202.37.101.2 (202.37.101.2), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets

 1  fritz.box (192.168.178.1)  1.770 ms  2.447 ms  1.240 ms

 2  ****.static.snap.net.nz   3.211 ms  4.301 ms  3.209 ms

 3  184.69.69.111.dynamic.snap.net.nz (111.69.69.184)  3.973 ms  4.743 ms  3.476 ms

Yes you can:

Tracing route to ns2.snap.net.nz [202.37.101.2]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  router [192.168.2.1]
  2     1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  84.7.69.111.static.snap.net.nz [111.69.7.84]
  3     3 ms     3 ms     3 ms  198.37.69.111.static.snap.net.nz [111.69.37.198]
  4     3 ms     3 ms     3 ms  ns2.snap.net.nz [202.37.101.2]

nperf in Christchurch appears to be down over IPv6, however is working on IPv4 currently.

Regarding the speed issues, have you logged a fault for this? How are you testing?

Windows traceroute completes but UNIX  traceroute doesn't. Below traceroutes commence off-net.

Tracing route to 202.37.101.2 over a maximum of 30 hops

  1     2 ms     1 ms     1 ms  192.168.1.250
  2     3 ms     3 ms     3 ms  203.152.96.105
  3    17 ms    16 ms    17 ms  10.20.4.18
  4    20 ms    17 ms    17 ms  43.243.21.30
  5    20 ms    17 ms    23 ms  111.69.48.56
  6    18 ms    17 ms    17 ms  202.37.101.2

Trace complete.

traceroute to 202.37.101.2 (202.37.101.2), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets
 1  192.168.1.250 (192.168.1.250)  1.242 ms  1.724 ms  0.865 ms
 2  203.152.96.105  3.026 ms  2.641 ms  2.581 ms

Using ICMP:

1 198.7.69.111.static.snap.net.nz (111.69.7.198) 3.423 ms 3.193 ms 3.364 ms
2 184.69.69.111.dynamic.snap.net.nz (111.69.69.184) 10.064 ms 11.577 ms 9.802 ms
3 ns2.snap.net.nz (202.37.101.2) 9.836 ms 9.669 ms 9.819 ms

UDP ping only gets the first two hops.

Hi All,

Traceroute from Windows machines typically uses ICMP Type 8 packets.  Traceroute from Unixlike machines typically uses UDP packets with sequentially increasing destination ports, from 33434 to 33534 (This is blocked on our network).

Nick.
