Getting really bad latency to some services in Australia.

speedtest.net test to Vocus server in Sydney reporting 230ms ping.

I've done a traceroute to 103.4.114.233 and everything is fine until I hit 111.69.56.5 (5.56.69.111.static.snap.net.nz) where the latency jumps to over 220ms. Every hop after this one has no latency better than ~170ms.

Is anyone else noticing this? I've tried to log a support call with 2 Degrees help but the guys on the phone don't seem to understand what I mean or I can't explain it well enough!

I'm also with 2Degrees and experiencing high latency to Australia as well, so its not just you.

@Mahon The issue is latency not speed I believe

I've also been getting high latency to Australian servers since last evening.

With a ping test to the AWS servers, all seems normal apart from the latency to the server in Sydney, which results in the following:

Asia Pacific (Sydney) 207 ms

I hope 2degrees can fix this soon...

I'm not on CGNAT and just doing some testing now

Edit: On 2degrees fibre Sydney 30ms over Wi-Fi via speedtest web page

103.4.114.233 looks to be a Blizzard gaming server but as described above it is also happening to Vocus speedtest, AWS.

Also the hop where the latency is going up and the latency figures suggest it's likely to be the trip on the return path.

Perhaps they are temporarily running some sort of traffic analysis through a cleanpipe before hitting their CGNAT platform.

I'm on 2Deg UFB in Auckland (not CGNAT) and get 27ms to Vocus Sydney. Other sydney servers are roughly the same.

@Rebuked The testing I have done latency to AUS is fine the issue seems to be outside of the 2degrees network!

Blizzard have changed something

If it's blizzard, they have been doing some big routing changes lately...

@hio77 This is why other NZ ISP have been impacted over the last few weeks

yup, will likely be it. (not putting words in the 2D folks mouths though, they are the right ones to really know what the issue possibly is!)

Probably only a momentary issue for 2D.. We all get it sometimes unfortunately.

Hi All,

As per investigations on GZ, it looks off 2d. Here's some history of latency from my UFB connection in Christchurch to Sydney for both the DNS  and Speedtest Server.

https://smokeping.thenet.gen.nz/smokeping/smokeping.cgi?target=Local.NS4 - Sydney DNS

https://smokeping.thenet.gen.nz/smokeping/smokeping.cgi?target=Local.statler- Sydney Speedtest

Nick
