Hi,

Been with 2 degrees for about 2 months now and have noticed a few things with using the provided modem FritzBox we opted for firstly my laptop which is abit old i admit can only get 2.4GHz on wifi which is fine but its occasionally dropping out, after looking at some settings ive set the channel to a static channel rather than auto changing (ive yet to see if this does anything) but i would think on auto it shouldnt matter, the only way to resolve the issue is restarting the wifi adaptor on the laptop (which works fine but quite annoying given sometimes the frequency of this happening, System log shows its deregistering device so -shrug-

But what is more the dropout's happen on my PC on a LAN cable too? not as frequent but can be a pain in the ass at times.

running a Frtiz!Box 7490, thinking about buying a thirdparty modem if continues

Not imported no, its fairly old but never had this issue with Spark modem. Possibly interference. I will have to see if the changes ive made to the radio channel help the wifi at least. Not sure why the LAN would drop out too though.

Hi, Are there any firmware updates? Or is that managed solely by 2deg? I have a Fbox that I got independently of 2deg and wen I moved houses (beginning of Nov), I was having no end of trouble connecting back to my Fibre ISP until I did a Firmware update, in all fairness it may have been a coincidence because I was trying lots of things at the time, but it is worth a try.

I think I have the same issue. Phone Wifi Disconnects randomly, as well as other devices. I haven't noticed the LAN dropping out though.

Same Issue at much Worse level though for last 6 months now.

2.4G and 5G Channels through Fritzbox 7490, Wifi is connected but internet stops working.

The only internet connection which does nt not having issue is LAN Cable connected to PS4. Rest everything else, iPhone, Samsung, Laptops, iPads, Smart TV get intermittent internet connection ( Wifi shows connected).

Been working with 2Degrees tech and Had a independent Company come over and no solution as of now.

Have people ensured their laptops have up to date WiFi drivers?

Disabling band steering could also be an option to try.

I had my Fritzbox 7490 randomly turn its wifi network off all together a few weeks go and I am the only person who knows the password to the admin pages. Still scratching my head on that one.

It has been happening to me on 5GHz when using my Laptop on wifi. I then connect back to 2.4GHz and a bit later the 5GHz channel shows up again. I thought that it was just me.

I purchased my 7490 in Australia many years ago. The firmware is up to date.

This sounds like the Fritz is using DFS channels.

Check the logs for "radar detected" messages...

May explain why my wifi calling drops out after a couple of minutes.

Is that what this is?

"5-GHz band cannot be used for 1 min. because of check for higher-priority users (e.g. RADAR) on the selected channel"

Not sure  how to do this...unless I "adjust radio channel settings? If so what setting should I use for 2.4 and 5?

This is the way I've done it, may be another.

Firstly, you can view 5Ghz channels to avoid using the table found under 5 GHz or 5.8 GHz (802.11a/h/j/n/ac/ax) subheading:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels#5_GHz_or_5.8_GHz_(802.11a/h/j/n/ac/ax) - avoid the ones listed under NZ that mention DFS.

Now navigate to Wireless > Radio Channel and click Refresh (i'm viewing on a mobile browser, its next to the apply and cancel buttons at the bottom but may be different on PC browser). Under Use of Wireless LAN Channels make a note of a channel (2.4Ghz first) that is showing low occupancy. Now click the 5Ghz tab and do the same, avoiding the DFS bands noted in the Wiki article linked above.

Now change Radio Channel Settings from auto to Adjust radio settings, choosing your new selected bands (as an FYI I have channel 40 for 5Ghz and it works a treat, no DFS issues). Under additional settings I have (not sure what was default) 2.4 standard set as n+g+b, 5 as n+ac, 100% tx power and have ticked devices can auto move between 2.4 and 5 when required as long as same SSIDs.

Hope it sorts it for you.

EDIT: And just to mention, if the performance of the channel isn't great you can of course try a different one until you find whatever works best whilst still avoiding the 5Ghz DFS ones.

I have this same exact problem on a new 7560. However for me the 5Ghz channel does not disappear and instead I just lose internet while the wifi connection is still maintained.

Never had such issues on any of my 7490s.
