For two nights in a row now (first time in a year) been getting issues with streaming television after 7.30pm. Television shows are not buffering but freezing. This is on wifi. Also whilst playing wow(ethernet) i am getting high latency on and off...ie it can be fine for a few minutes then spike.

I have UFB 100/20 and live in Invercargill. I have to use wifi calling due to bad reception and almost all calls drop out after a time(This has been happening since June.)

I have called the tech twice and both times they have changed something in my router to no avail. Today they told me that it probably is congestion in my area and that they have no control over the network if everyone chooses to use it at the same time. They also said they have no fix for it and if I wish to change providers they cannot stop me.

Wondering if anyone else within my area is also having thew same issues, as I dont really want to change providers as I have been happy with 2 degrees?

Dumb question, but have you reset your fritzbox? I find I need to do it every couple of months

Not keen on giving that level of detail here...but suburb is Waikiwi.

Am hoping for a comment from @NickMack to perhaps confirm there is a problem or not.

Hi Mahon,

Not sure specifically what you would like me to comment on - You have stated you have some issues with streaming tv, What investigation have you done, what testing, packet captures, traces, what devices are you using, where is Fritz located, what is the construct of your house if using wifi etc, have you called Customer Care etc?

We have no known bottlenecks, so therefore investigation of some sort is needed.

Nick

Are you connecting using 5GHz rather than 2.4GHz? What basic WiFi fault finding have you done such as changing channels?

Upload congestion can cause this too.

As you have *only* 20Mbit upload (I say only, as the Aussies will still be jealous of that) you do have the potential to bottleneck your connection if you're for example, seeding torrents. You do need to do more investigation, the problem is more than likely on your end.

Or upgrade to the Gigabit plan.

I have called customer care twice and they have changed settings in the Fritz box but the issue continues and was told there is nothing that can be done.

TV streaming is wifi and has been good for 12 months until this week. Computer is ethernet so warcraft latency is on ethernet. Fritz is in same room as TV and PC.

It happens at approx 7.30pm each night and last until I go to bed.

Nothing has been changed that could affect it.

Wifi calling issues have been ongoing since June 2019 where calls usually always drop out after about 2 minutes, and also where the people I am calling transfer my call.

Running speedtests each night shows that it is always around 100/20 which is the plan I am on. I havnt been asked by customer support for any other tests.

Hiya,

Cool - still not a lot to go on to be honest - How many other devices/people are in the house and using the internet at this time, do you host any services as well?

Nick.

When the TV is streaming slowly, can you stream without any issues via your computer and ethernet? Would help to narrow the issue down a bit. Maybe the neighbours wifi is affecting yours and they are doing something at 7.30.

Issue seems to have been resolved. A huge thanks to @nickmack for his assistance. Still a mystery as to why it started last week after no changes.

My contract ended so I upgraded to the fastest speed and the issue seems to have gone away. 2Degrees also changed some router settings which may have helped.

Thanks
