So 2Dg have pulled their Trade Up program permanently.

For those of us on it before 31st Jan 2020, we still get to use it this time round but won't be able to re-sign on that basis again.

One question I now have which wasn't clear to me from their new T&C:

https://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/termsofuse/mobile/mobile-repayment-and-trade-up/trade-up-terms-and-conditions/

It says that the current new phones eligible to be upgraded to as part of the Trade Up program are as below:

  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone Xs
  • iPhone Xs Max
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • Samsung Galaxy Note9
  • Samsung Galaxy S9
  • Samsung Galaxy S9+
  • Samsung Galaxy S8

If the program is no longer active, will this list continue to evolve during the year as new phones are released, or is this now fixed to the above?

As an owner of an S10+ I would be better off cancelling the monthly $10 now and accepting the loss on the money spent to date rather than reaching August this year and not being able to upgrade to a newer/better next-gen device to my current one!

Anyone have any insight?

Awesome - thanks @SaltyNZ.

I am hoping to either upgrade to an S20+ or iPhone equivalent if that helps!

Has there been any kind of announcement? I only found out from this thread...

2degrees team - is there some reason for the iPhone 11 Pro Max not being on the list? If I'm going to be stuck with my next phone for a while, I'd rather it was the Max. Surely if we're not giving the phone back, it doesn't really matter if I want a higher value phone?

Indeed, I only found out accidentally when reviewing my current contract online!

It is a bit odd that the list hasn’t been updated since I got my new S10+ 6 months ago as well - I was told in store that it would be...

Any update @saltynz ?

Having another look through the T&C, it uses the term "latest handset" a few times, but also specifies that said "latest handset" must be eligible for trade up...

Still not clear!

  1. With Trade Up, you will have the right to upgrade to the latest handset provided that:

a)    you have paid in full:

  1.  12 consecutive monthly bills received by you in respect of your 24 month MRO; or
  2.  18 consecutive monthly bills received by you in respect of your 36 month MRO; and
  3. there are no current amounts outstanding to be paid on your 2degrees Account; and

b)    you return your current Eligible Handset (or a handset of the same make, model and capacity) in undamaged and in good working condition, and accompanied with any Trade Up documentation required by 2degrees within seven (7) days of exercising your right to upgrade; and

c)     the latest handset of your choosing is eligible for an upgrade exchange with your existing Eligible Handset; and

d)    you are on an Eligible Plan; and

e)    you sign up to a new MRO (for the full price of the new Eligible Handset) with the new MRO period starting on the date you purchased the new Eligible Handset.

@nickmack @saltyNZ

Sorry to harp on, but any updates? Really don’t want to be spending $10 a month that returns no value and it is a little disappointing that 2 Degrees hasn’t made a better communication to its current “last generation” Trade Up customers!

Cheers

Sorry this is more potentially @saltyNZ than me - have you tried calling into Care to discuss?

Nick.

So I spoke to Andrew on the customer care line.

He advised that the eligible phones would continue to update, regardless of what the list said on the website.

He cited an example of a customer he dealt with today who was approved his upgrade to the S20 on release date under his Trade Up program, so looks like I should be able to get my S20+ (or equivalent iPhone) in August when I am eligable.

Yes, sorry, I have about 50 unread personal emails today, let alone *work* emails -- it sounds like you have more up to date info than I have. All I could find out was the original list you quoted. :-)
