I have recently moved from Voda to 2D, and the main thing I missed was the Voda $7 roaming overseas.

Now, I don't have to miss it anymore!

Good work 2Degrees - Very happy with this. I assume it won't be long before they bring this to the consumer post pay accounts...

$7 per day to use your plan's voice/sms/data in a heap of countries, plus free to do the same in Australia.

The $7 roaming is a great move, but worth noting roaming in Aussie has been free for a number of years now on business plans.

Wow, first carrier to offer Cook Islands in a roaming plan?

If you’ve got mobile data turned off, does the $7 charge kick-in if you receive a call or if you answer a call? In my scenario I want to keep my phone off aeroplane mode so I can use my local sim and still want to receive calls/txts on 2degrees via Wifi calling.

@myfullflavour any service over the mobile network should trigger the $7 charge, Any service over Wi-Fi calling would not trigger the charge

Yes, to be clear, receiving a call on cellular will trigger it. VoWifi does not trigger it. If you turn cellular off and just use Wifi, you're in the clear. However you can now turn cellular on and use as much data away from the hotspot as you like knowing it won't cost more than $7 for the day.

But because I dual sim, if I want to use Wi-Fi calling I'm going to need to hit the "turn on this line" toggle on my 2degrees number. If I then walk out of wifi coverage and I get a phone call, even if I don't answer it, I'm going to be hit with the $7 fee?

Yes. We have to charge the $7 first in real-time in order to know whether you are able to receive the call. But we are "Fighting for Fair" and so we have already considered the situation where for some reason, the only usage on a given day was an unanswered received call. Although the charge will be made in real-time, it will be reversed again before it appears on your bill.

So in that situation you would (if you checked your balance) see that we had charged you $7, but we won't bill for it. Worst case the reversal would be on the next bill because the report is a daily job and might happen after the bill run has already begun.

I see something about voicemail being automatically disabled when you go overseas. I've got my number setup so that after X rings it diverts to my landline number at my office. Will this diversion continue to work?

No, and yes, if your phone rang, you were charged for those calls at the applicable roaming rate. Note: unconditional diverts do not attract a charge because they are never routed to the foreign network. But if your phone rings, you get charged. The foreign network still charges us if you don't answer the call.

Thanks man, might have to check some of my roaming bills from last year! Had assumed if I didn't answer the call while roaming and the call then got picked up on my NZ landline I wouldn't be charged.
