First question, maybe you should disclose who you work for?

Issue -

IPV6 external access not working

Can it be replicated -

all the time

steps to replicate -

Setup ipV6 as per the example on geekzone.(forumid=85&topicid=240157)

Impact on you -

Since 2degrees CGNAT implemented I have been unable to use my VPN or access my home network externally. I figured I should be able to use IPV6 as the prefix seems stable and is reported back through no-ip and myFritz anyway. But no-go. Very occasionally <http://www.test-ipv6.com/index.html.en_US> indicates I have a responding ipv6 connection but I still can't get a connection back and most times it indicates I only have IPV4.

Please can you confirm that I should be able to get things  to work, and, if so, how to set things up correctly.

Note: probably unimportant but I also have a 7360 Fritzbox on the network to give me a second WiFi channel.

Yes, my daughter (on VDSL) has the same problem as rprosser, IPv4 has been CGNATed  (understandable) but why does IPv6 not work?

I am on UFB and IPv6 works fine  EXCEPT the address is NOT static.  Surely there is no reason for dynamic IPv6 addresses?

Hiya, Have you called care and talked through the services that have stopped working since you were moved to CGNAT?

Nick.

Hiya,

ipv6 hasn't been turned off anywhere, please have your daughter call into care to discuss the issue so it can be troubleshooted.

No , I haven't called care as I am at work during the day & the only real chance to  try it out is when I get home at night - generally quite late. Largely I'm trying to figure out if what I'm trying to do is sensible, or if external ipv6 is blocked somewhere. I'm a bit of a newbee when it comes to network configuration.

I've now emailed care via the webpage so we'll see if they have any suggestions.

What about the dynamic IPv6 for UFB people?

Still no progress on my ipV6 issue. (Can't get external access to my home network since CGNAT was employed - even over ipV6)

I backed off during the lockdown period as I figured it wasn't urgent but am now trying to figure out what's going on again.

I called the helpdesk but the only option they gave was a static (ipv4 ?) address at $10/month. I can't justify this at the moment, particularly as there's not much chance of overseas travel in the near future (that's when I mostly use it for a VPN).

A static ipV4 address would work for me but I can't understand why I can't get external access by ipV6 as the address apears to be static (or at least doesn't change often). I can handle a dynamic ipV6 address if required. Just not this CGNAT situation.

Any assistance appreciated.

The only thing that should be blocking your IPv6 access is the firewall.  Do you have a port opened in the IPv6 firewall to allow VPN access to that IPv6 address?  What sort of VPN are you using?

IPv6 works just fine on 2Degrees, but you do have to have it working properly for anything to work over IPv6.  As a basic test, you should be able to access IPv6 sites on the Internet.  So from a Windows PC if you do "ping -6 google.com" does it work?  Or from Linux, "ping6 google.com".  Then, to check if the MTUs are set correctly, try "ping -6 -l 1452 google.com" (Linux: "ping6 -s 1452 google.com") which should work with maximum length packets, and "ping -6 -l 1453 google.com" which should fail (no replies) as the packets are too long.  If the ping with 1452 fails, try reducing the number until it works to see what your actual MTU is.

If the pings work, try a port scan for the VPN port.  Go here:

http://www.ipv6scanner.com

and fill in the IPv6 address of the device hosting the VPN, and the port number.
