Hello All,

I have been using Slingshot Fibre connection for a while now with my Fritzbox7490. I also had my land line working till last Friday 3rd of April when my modem sent me a notification what phone is not working.

After some digging around I can see in the modem it is logging the following entries

Registration of Internet telephone number ([number]) failed. Remote site reports reason for error: 401

Registration of Internet telephone number ([number]) failed. Remote site reports reason for error:403

I also noticed that Proxy server which I used till now also changed from 119.224.142.182 to voice.slignshot.co.nz (101.98.8.92). Even after changing the proxy server to 101.98.8.92 ( I tried both DNS and IP) still I am unable to register my phone no with Slingshot.

What password do I use? Did slingshot change password also with the backend server?

I did try calling Slingshot Tech Support and they want me to use their provided modem which I am reluctant to use.

Does anyone here have the similar issue ? And is there any resolution to make Fritzbox7490 work again?

Please note my internet is working fine with Fritzbox7490.

Thanks

Hi @evilevo5,

The issue you're facing is because we no longer support our VoIP service on third-party devices.

Our networks team have deemed this to be a security risk which is why we've advised to use the modem we've provided for homeline services.

Sorry for the mix up here.

Cheers,

Matt

I'm having the same issue with my Frtizbox.... what if we do not want to use the provided modem?

I prefer the specs range of the Fritzbox. Are you saying anyone who uses a 3rd party modem is basically screwed?

I'm having the same problem with my TP Link VR600V modem.

The phone was working fine on Slingshot up till a few weeks ago and now its not working at all.

I was also using a registrar address of 119.224.142.182 successfully for about a year.

I don't really want to go back to using the Netcomm modem supplied by Slingshot (NF4V) as it only operates on a 2.4 gig wireless band, and its also slower for wireless connections.

In addition its starting to die out by crashing intermittently

Just switch to hero.co.nz and be done with it.

Interesting - I use a separate ATA for my Slingshot VOIP line and previously set this up with Slingshot assistance.

If they are going to insist on use of their router, it looks like switching VOIP to another provider is the way ahead.  I use a mesh system for the router and WiFi and would not want to revert to the ISP provided device.

I have had the same issue since 1 April 2020. No notification from Slingshot. My Fritzbox 7490 worked perfectly up until then. I started using the Fritzbox as I was having wireless issues with the NF4V provided by Slingshot. I emailed Slingshot and was told to reset router to factory settings, and set up again which I did. No luck. They did not tell me 3rd party routers were no longer supported.

Does anyone know a work around for this? Does Slingshot still provide Fritzbox routers? What other options are there from Slingshot/ Vocus?

My current work around is to use my fritzbox as a wireless repeater while using the provided box as the modem to the ont and phone.

Great question, maybe one of the vocus accounts can answer if they still provide the FritzBox cause the wireless range on the current one is absolutely terrible.

@DatDan

We no longer provide a Fritzbox.

@chevrolux

Our current modem model is the Netcomm NF18.

I struggle to see what a Fritzbox 7490 gives you over a NF18!! Maybe a small handful of useless features in the GUI?

Oh sorry, looks like we have NF18 also. Range on it is still trash regardless.

For anyone wondering you can run the supplied Slingshot POS behind any other better router using a double NAT and the VOIP function works just fine, all that's needed is a small setting change in the Netcomm.

@fallafalla, Do you have the config in hand or how to guide? Thanks
