Hi Orcon team,

I have the basic Orcon modem NetComm Wireless NF4V.

Is it possible to pay a fee and upgrade my modem to one that's slightly gruntier - even supporting 5GHZ would be great.

Thank you, TehGerbil

Hi, are you on VDSL (or ADSL) or Fibre, typically the wireless performance of most all in one routers is pretty so so, why not instead invest in a decent seperate WAP.

Thanks Cyril7, I suspect you're right. My HG659 from, 5+ years ago requires frequent rebooting, and is running the latest firmware so just checking out all my options.

The Netcomm router is 2.4 only, but it does have a decent range. I am pissing around with a Vodafone "Ultra hub" to replace it (for free) but suspect forking out for a decent AP is well work the outlay.

I use a non-ISP provided router on Orcon.  You can do the same.  Just keep the current one handy in case you need to do any troubleshooting during a fault.

I am on Orcon Gigantic Fibre. I have used an HG659 until recently when the LAN ports started failing.

I never bothered using the Orcon supplied router.

I am presently using a Vodafone Ultra Hub which works very well. Also noting that WiFi on 2.4GHz and 5GHz works all around my house.

I also tested a Spark Smart Modem today and found that to work well too.

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

I have done a factory reset, and then have it running simultaneously with the HG659 (different SSID) and it's been perfectly fine and yes - the range is much better than my HG659.

Thank you.
