Hey guys (@2Degrees, @NickMack, etc),

I know it's early days yet, but just curious as to when you guys might be offering HyperFibre plans / connections?

I'm not sure why I need more speed, but.... I just do! :D

I'm sure I can find *some* way to justify it! :D

Hi Sam,

Sorry wrong department for me - I can however state that the network is in an excellent place to support faster speeds on the back of our RWC2019 upgrades/preparation/investment (hardware upgrades, backhaul/capacity, handovers) last year - This year we have been continuing the replacing of hardware (faster/higher spec'd kit) in our regional areas this year as well as adding more expansion capabilities with these faster speeds in mind :-).

Nick.

Can't wait. I am in Wellington and our area has been enabled - just need 2degrees to offer it now - ha. I think Orcon is the only ones offering it.
Then again - not sure why I would need a 4gig link. Will also mean 10gig switch etc. to see any value!

I would just like faster up-link on the 100/20 plan like 100/50 even better 100/100 but I am pleased my 2degrees fibre connection is rock solid and has never missed a beat in almost 12 months of connection

Nova called me yesterday trying to sell me a internet / power plan and they got the big ' NO ' not interested

This is not correct, you do not need a 10gig switch, or even a 2.5 or 5gig switch. A big use case for hyperfibre is being able to slice up the connection. E.G. a 4Gbps connection could mean the family gamer will have their dedicated 1Gbps connection, the home business can have their 1Gbps, maybe a 1Gbps for streaming and 1Gps for everything else. This means when the rest of the family is thrashing their 8K streaming and the home business is backing up bigtime to the cloud; the family gamer will be happy at play with no effect on latency or bandwidth. And the household live happily ever after in their bubbles :)

Valid use case that make sense breaking up the link. The 10gig switch is need vs want :) ha.
Even with the crazy amount of devices, and multiple streaming through lockdown, working from home etc - didnt even come close to saturating our 1gig link.

I didn't realize it worked like that - very interesting.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

You still need a 10Gb uplink somewhere to aggregate all your "slices"....

At the least, your router WAN port needs to be 10Gbps (or NBase-T I guess) to be able to utilise that 4Gbps.

The 10Gb link is the ONT.

The ONT has 4 GbE and a 10GbE port on it and it can also do your routing so can replace your ISP CPE.

How would their backhaul cope?

I have read on another topic that MR has one of the worst backhaul in the country, fudging speedtest results with no adsl or wireless etc.
