My head hurts trying to weigh these options. Am in Hamilton - 2degrees will give me a $90 per month unlimited Fibre and cell phone. Nephew in Sydney says pick Stuff for my fibre. But he's in Sydney! Opinions please - I am old and not savvy as to who owns what cables and are they all the same??

Thanks!

Most here will recommend 2degrees - good network, good service, reasonable pricing.

Stuff Fibre has the distinct disadvantage of not actually being an ISP. They just resell someone else's service, so this adds a layer of complexity if you have to call for support - you call them, then they call the actual ISP in the background. They resell Devoli who are pretty good though so you shouldn't actually have many problems.

10000000000000% 2degrees, been with them for years and have nothing but good things to say about them. As a bonus, they are quite active here in the forums.

Resellers like Stuff are just another middle-person you don't need.

just remember Stuff has just been sold to Vocus so you are joining Orcon and Slingshot and their network

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I thought I read somewhere (possibly here) Vocus were leaving Stuff Fibre as is for now rather than integrating it into their networks straight away?

Changed from Vodafone cable (TelstraClear) after 5 years or so, attracted by a recommendation from a friend

went with 1 year Stuff contract and never got better that 701/536 , usually more like 370/500, in the 12 months.

Swapped to 2degrees in April and 5 minutes after plugging the Fritzbox into the ONT Speedtest was 905/516 and

my weekly Speedtest is always in that area.

Very impressive, I am happy to stay with 2degrees

Also highly recommend 2Degrees. Never experience any slow downs even at peak times.

I have moved from Spark to Stuff Fibre on 19th May.

I have Sam Knows device plugged in to do analysis and there are some interesting things that shows up.

DNS Response time is very fast on Stuff compared to Spark however the Download speeds do not go anywhere more than 700 (although I am on Gigabit).

I used to get about 900 plus always on Spark.

I have to say upload speeds are far superior. Almost 540 for me and spark used to be 400's.

Most likely because spark does not openly peer

Any reason why download speeds should effect between ISP's? Considering the backhaul is all exactly same (Chorus) ?

I went with Stuff Fibre because of their special 50% off first six months deal which also gives the Asus modem.

Plus the landline costs were cheaper. I was with Spark for 20 plus years and they could not retain me when I told them I am moving.

Deal on six months half price is here if anyone is keen.

DNS requests aren't going outside the network.... peering would have nothing to do with it.
