Just wondering if there is any updated information about the Australian ping problem?

I'm still getting a steady 170ms ping to internode.net.au, when on a TelstraClear connect at the same time of day is getting 62ms, and an Xtra connection gets 60ms.

Obviously TC and Xtra are following different transit routes to Orcon, any luck with your transit provider?

There does seem to be an issue with an upstream provider in Australia - Internode - that is routing some Orcon unbundled customers on a very round a bout route back to us. We are working with them to resolve this. Added a note to the system status page yesterday about this, so check back there for any updates.

Internode is now perfect, solid 60ms pings all round!

At the same time Optus has spiked up to 200-300ms though strangely... (where it was about 100ms before when Internode was bad)

Most Australian pings are great now, however.

I'll get a 60ms ping to a certain Aussie IP, and my brother who has just signed up to Orcon will get a 600ms ping to the same IP.

We are both on LLU with the same RTA1320 modem that is supplied by orcon.

Strange? Get this - choose a different Aussie IP and he will get a ping of 60ms, and I will get a 600ms ping to it!

Certain IPs we get the same 100-120ms ping to but these are few.

Unfortunately can't tracert as they are hosting games through battle.net, and without doing some netstat-ing its not easy to view their ISPs.

Anyone else experiencing this? I'll try and get more info and post a support ticket with Orcon.

As PhoneMonkey pointed out you have a 70ms ping to your router!!! WOW thats high

mins under 1ms

check your cables/switch/router it shouldnt be that high, thats higher than what I get to the aussie server.

Cheers for the reply, but thats just the router being a bit random in its ping replies and has no effect on the latency to external servers.

You'll notice the next hop is my modem on 192.168.0.1 which is completely unaffected by the high pings to the Speedtouch router I'm using before it (192.168.1.254).

You'll also notice none of the hops after it are affected either - I realise you're just trying to help out though, so thanks anyway!

Those tracerts were from the previous problem which was fixed, I have yet to post tracerts to the pings that are high now.

Cheers for the tracerts, but if you read up a bit the internode problems were fixed a while ago.

Have checked several different ISPs today and they are all pinging very well - looks like the problem has been fixed for all Australian ISPs - nice one Orcon!
