Spark does not yet have wifi calling/SMS. Considering 2d. A couple of questions.

Is wifi calling available on prepay?

I see a limited list of phones are supported. Is it likely to work on Nokia 7.2 purchased from Spark?

I noticed for the India rollout 7.2 is supported by one carrier and not the other for some reason.

Yes to prepay. 99% sure it’s a no to a Spark handset (running spark firmware).

One year later : ). Trying a 2D prepay card on a Nokia 7.2 purchased from Spark.

When I'm connected to WiFi and I try to make a wifi call - Android says "connect to a wireless network to make a call". Well, yeah I already am and it's a good one too.

I have played with a few settings. Can't seem to get past this message. Any random suggestions or hints are welcome.

Buy another phone?

Seriously, I too am a Nokia 7.2 owner, and this device is very much a dead duck in the NZ market.

I've asked a few times about getting VoLTE support for the Nokia 7.2 on Spark/Skinny; and apparently it's "in the backlog"; but I don't see it being a priority to anyone.

The Covid App Android stats that were published on GitHub a while ago indicates out of the 1,139,139 android devices that were registered at the time, only 751 were Nokia 7.2 devices; which is < 0.1% of the market - i.e. I can fully understand why the Telcos and their partners are not putting the effort into certifying this device.  (In fact, judging by the number of long term software bugs that are all over the Nokia forums, I doubt Nokia/HMD ever took it seriously either).

Pity, as I'd like the "shiney toys" too; but at this stage I'm resigned to it being unlikely to ever happen; and yes, if I hadn't already gone over my "wife tolerance limit" for new toys this year (**cough** 2nd ticwatch **cough**), I'd be taking my own advice.

Only 4 brands of phones there and no Nokia.   I wonder if you buy a new phone from Spark, Voda or the likes  of PB Tech weather it will work on 2D WiFi Calling or only phones purchased from them.

Thanks @morganbrowne, does this mean the phone must support voLTE as jamesrt suggests?

I'd expect so, otherwise how would it do a hand off if you walked away from home wifi and onto a cell tower

I will consider this. Any idea if Pixel 4 / 4a / 5 will work?

I prefer Android os without the usual OEM things. That's the reason I have a Nokia. The brands on the compatible list: Huawei, Oppo, Samsung, iPhone. None of those offer that to my knowledge.

The Fold 3 is tempting me all the same. Pixel 6 is too far away.

Maybe another way of looking at this temporarily. What's the cheapest compatible phone I can get? ; ).

In my case not an issue. It's a long walk. If handoff was impossible I'd be perfectly 100% happy. Point taken tho.

The really frustrating thing is the Nokia 7.1 is on the list for Spark/Skinny; but not the 7.2

I'm unsure how the software between those two models could possibly vary that much with respect to VoLTE - which I'd expect to be an entirely-in-software thing...

Which is interesting in that the 7.1 was released in October 2018 and the 7.2 in September 2019
