So Xnet are completely hopeless now. Just worthless. I can't even successfully load most international websites during off-peak hours Frown

Will things improve with Snap? I won't just be jumping from the frying pan to the fire? How good is Snap, really? I need to be able to use BitTorrent (modest number of downloads - mostly following TV shows I like and the occasional movie), download large numbers of podcasts in iTunes (Podcasts have basically replaced TV for me and the video podcasts especially can be huge - and way to many are not hosted on servers that support resuming *sigh* so I really need connections NOT to crap out or be too slow), and game with reasonably low latency (mainly MMORPGs).

The main reason I'm considering Snap is I'm on naked DSL and there are bugger all ISPs offering decent naked DSL plans Frown From what I can see Snap seems the best (not considering Xnet which is utterly broken, and Slingshot can't even move people from naked DSL to naked DSL yet!!! Frown) right now in terms of pricing, but correct me if I'm wrong!

TIA,
 Jamie Kahn Genet

spend the money.. go Telstra.. or return to the borg by going xtra.

Ping times on Snap.. add the round trip from whereever you are to Christchurch then to where you want to go. My TF2 ping increased 30ms
d/l torrents is o.k. but it is a turn on and forget about it until the next day thing.

Why am I still with snap... I want to be the one to say it has improved. I could be here for a while. Also I painted myself into a corner as I cannot risk being off the net' for 4 days when i transferred t snap from orcon (I believe that was telecoms fault.. but could of been snaps as they had got something wrong with the phone transfer... my internet transferred but the phone stayed with orcon?!)

Fred.

Telstra doesn't have naked DSL and I don't think Xtra does either (big surprise).
I understand the trapped feeling. Xnet told me I'll be without phone and 'net for at least a week if I go back to having a voiceline Frown Since I cannot be without 'net access for longer that 24 hours I'm trapped. As it happens Skype is working GREAT and is saving me heaps, so I really don't want a voiceline again, but the trouble is there are bugger all decent naked DSL options Frown I'd have a lot more options with a voiceline again *sigh*

Naked DSL has been a frigg'n joke from what I have seen. Perhaps you save $10 a month... but you 'save' that by using an over extended provider.

If you have the money but not the time then I suggest getting a second phone line put in and do a parallel cutover. that is keep you current service on the current line, get the new service up on the next line then cut off the first...  which would be kinda cool as you could jump back to naked dsl on the 'spare' line whenever...

I'm with SNAP since march and SNAP is far better experience I had with any other provider... Sure I've always been on unlimited plans :)

1. woosh wireless 256kbps
2. orcon wired 256kbps
3. woosh wired upload capped at 128kbps (this plan fckd up after 6 month I've been on, every one knows the story)
4. snap night owl. I'm happy :) very happy :)

I know what I'm paying for and my expectations are well met by SNAP... and don't forget excellent cutstomer service.

Sure if you're gamer and want low latency SNAP won't give you best results... but 30-60ms national for me is more then enought :) and 100-400 for rest of the world... I don't see any probles with that latency and it does not cause any problem for me.

As far as seen Xnet problem affected everyone on Xnet... and most of user could not even searf the web during busy hours, that I don't know what Fred talking about as I don't have any problem with national/international traffic after 7pm fullspeed enabled :) Websites load fast.

I don't think night owl is open to new customers. What do you get with that?

Night owl is an old plan...

Most nights I cannot play a youtube without it caching. That sucks.

Fred .

Have you contemplating switch back to standard plan instead of keeping the Nite-Owl, it may greatly improve
your connection?.
Many users from Xnet switch away from torrent plan and they get good result.

baboon, yep you can't connect to night owl. sign up closed like during the april I guess, but this is not main point. The point I wanted to explain you, that snap is good in contrast with other ISPs at least for me. Time will show what would happen to SNAP but for now it's the best option for me...

Night Owl (upload capped at 128kbps)
 - from 7am till 7pm speed is capped at 128kbsp both ways
 - from 7pm till 7am full speed for downloading (ADSL1 upto 4.5mbit - that what I've for national and anything betwenn 1-4mbit internatioanl depending on where is server)

since march I only had two technical issues... most of us where affected at beggining of this month, but well resolved in 3-4 days, and another one broken route to west side of Russian servers... but that was not snap problem but they well monitored it for a week for me :D (technical support and customer service is best around NZ :) this is true!)

and another non-technical thing, payments in advance for service... none of ISP charged me in advance before, but snap does, don't know why, but I can survive that :)

I find a good comparison between speed test to LA and actual performance.
When the speed test to LA is < 700kb youtube starts to cache..

As for other speed tests.. have a look here:

If your on night owl as suggested above then your b****ing is irrelevant.
I have seen others on GPforums and possibly here too who are happy with Snap speeds.

I am on the pro plan.. not on the night owl plan so.. does that.. make my what? relevant.

Hey! Youtube is not pausing... just tested here
Quantum complex algorithms

And speedtest is giving:
