So my old Linksys wrt1900 router has built in open VPN. I'm with Vodafone at the moment but most probably will be switching to 2°. But they are on CGNAT

Would that prevent me utilising the openvpn feature?

Yes, you would need to request a Static IP.

The Fritzbox does OpenVPN fine, I connect using my Android phone. But yeah you need to pay the $10 a month for a static IP for it to work.

Do you think the Fritzbox provided modem is better than the WRT-1900AC (version1) modem that I have? Especially love the built-in OpenVPN and also the wifi coverage is great with 4 antennas etc.

I haven't ever used Fritzbox before.

Fritz is good, plus 2degrees remotely updates / controls it so if you bork it like I did once they can fix it. You can use your one as a WAP or something. Or just use your one if you're confident you can manage it.
