I have decided to move from Vodafone to 2degrees. I completed the form on line and provided my current internet provider details.

It’s not clear what the next steps are. Do I cancel Vodafone first? Or wait for 2degrees to activate my connection?

I thought 2degrees might cancel the Vodafone connection since they ask for the customer number but that’s not the case.

Any guidance will be much appreciated

@Ipv89 Do NOT contact the LSP (Losing service provider) until your 2degrees connection is active

When the connection moves this should cancel the Vodafone connection / account but it pays to check with the LSP after the connection has moved to the new service provider (2degrees)

Basically, as above.
Wait to receive your connection date from 2degrees. This means that there's an order in place to transition your connection and there's little to no chance of anyone accidentally removing your service prematurely.
You'll need to contact Voda to tidy up the account (billing etc), 2d cannot do this on your behalf.

The most common missteps made by end users moving providers are having the assumption that the gaining provider can close your account with the losing provider - this is kind of like assuming I can close your bank account. And also contacting the losing provider before an order is in place.
When there's an order to disconnect services, you are not able to transition them while that request is processing.
There's also a misconception that providers can cancel each others requests, they can not. These sort of mistakes can result in longer than necessary downtime which in turn results in grumpy end users.

Cheers

You should also note that your LSP may have some terms and conditions that may impact you.
Aside from any contractual requirements, there is often a notice period (eg 30 days) which may see you paying two providers for that time.
I would suggest emailing the LSP Stating your intent to move your services away and provide 30 days notice. Make it extremely clear that you wish them to take no action based off of that instruction.

Cheers
Neil

So I received a txt from 2degrees stating that the install day is today. Doe anyone know how it works in regards to the connection being used? will I swap over automatically or need to cancel Vodafone before I am using the 2degrees connection?

(assuming this is Broadband), and having just completed this process on Friday myself, you will get a txt from 2degree that will have your username and some modem settings in it, the password should be the password you signed up to 2degrees with, but mine didn't work so I had to call them (0800022022 9 then 2) and have then reset/set.  As I had my router (ERX) all programed ready to, a simple restart was all that was required to get me going, so from disconnect to operational again <10min, even with 2 calls to 2degree's....  If you have the 2degree modem, unplug the Vodafone router, plugin the 2degree one and you should be up and running...
