Hi, At my sisters house in Wanganui and posting this on her behalf.

I note her ADSL with slingshot appears to be slow.... though the modems stats seem to show a healthy download speed.

The modem is a Dynalink RTA1320

Line ModeG.DMT Line StateShow Time
Latency TypeInterleave Line Up Time00:00:19:21
Line CodingTrellis On Line Up Count

StatisticsDownstreamUpstream
Line Rate7616 Kbps160 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate8768 Kbps1152 Kbps
Noise Margin13.1 dB31.0 dB
Line Attenuation38.0 dB21.5 dB
Output Power19.8 dBm-0.6 dBm

How do these stats look?  The upstream seems to maybe be a bit crook... But I'm guessing as I don't
know anything about ADSL (I'm a cable man) :)

Can anyone assist?

Cheers,
Grant

This connection seems more like dialup than ADSL!

Looks like she's on the 256/128k plan.

The 160k upstream sync is because she's been provisioned as either a 256k/128k or a FS/128k customer.

THanks.. yes, that seems to make sense... She could get up to 7mbps (according to the modem).
I think she is on a starter or beginner plan... comes with tolls and phone line also for around $70 a  month or something..

Ok, so all must be good, I must be too used to faster speeds in Wellington :)

This slax download will take 2 hours 45 mins at this speed. time to cancel :)

ADSL, on the whole, is quite a let down once you've experienced real broadband.

I like how slingshot has the 256k plans. They are cheap, and if i remember right, the caps are high so they are good for families or anyone with teenagers.

The caps were high. The last two generations (the last especially) has really taken a big dump on 256k plans. $30/mth for 2GB?
Before it was removed, the 2Mbps/128k plan was the same price, with the same amount of data!

I remember when $25/mth (or even $30/mth) came with 25GB. Now THAT's a good deal.
