So after weeks of hemming, hawing, and comparing plans, I finally switched to Orcon's ADSL2+ service. And I'm completely happy. Over the moon. I'm able to watch streaming media in realtime again! 2002 here I come!!!
I am curious about my line speed though. It's roughly the same as it was on Telecom... between 4500 and 5300 mbps. The actual speed attained is great - I've gotten 500k/sec downloading from international direct download, as well as in the p2p realm. So don't get me wrong. I am happy.
But looking at the other posts in the forum and the theoretical speed calculators (i.e. http://fremnet.net/article/216/adsl-theoretical-speed-calculator) and I'm at about 1/3 of my maximum potential line speed (2.2k from Onehunga exchange, according to calculator above).
1) Are there any router settings that could help me improve this speed?2) I've heard that switching to the HomeHub has led to some significant line speed increases. For $5/mo, would it be a good investment?3) Any other ideas?
The line to the router comes straight from the wall to a splitter, and then straight into the router (e.g. no extension leads).
