Cloudflare's AKL POP is currently being rerouted to Sydney. On 2degrees, this is causing 800+ ms latency with lots of timeouts. I have reports from people on other ISPs (not Spark or other ones that don't peer) that they are not experiencing these issues - they're now seeing ~30-40 ms to Sydney POP as expected.

My ugly, hideous traceroute:

Tracing route to one.one.one.one [1.1.1.1]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  fritz.box [192.168.178.1]
  2     5 ms     4 ms     4 ms  41.7.69.111.static.snap.net.nz [111.69.7.41]
  3     4 ms     4 ms     4 ms  as23655.auckland.megaport.com [43.243.22.16]
  4   774 ms   743 ms   755 ms  as4826.auckland.megaport.com [43.243.22.18]
  5   802 ms     *      830 ms  be101.bdr01.akl03.akl.nz.vocus.network [114.31.202.40]
  6   835 ms     *      773 ms  be100.bdr01.akl05.akl.nz.vocus.network [114.31.202.38]
  7     *      864 ms   861 ms  be204.cor02.syd04.nsw.vocus.network [114.31.202.58]
  8     *        *      862 ms  be101.bdr02.syd03.nsw.vocus.network [114.31.192.37]
  9     *      798 ms   801 ms  as13335.bdr02.syd03.nsw.VOCUS.net.au [175.45.124.197]
 10   815 ms     *      816 ms  one.one.one.one [1.1.1.1]

Trace complete.

This poked routing occurs on both home broadband and mobile data. It's making stuff slooow (including Geekzone).

I can confirm I can see requests to Cloudflare going to SYD instead AKL but this seems to affect EVERY ISP.

You can visit Geekzone User IP information and look for HTTP_CF_RAY to see which POP is serving the page at that moment.

This seems to have started since yesterday around 6pm but from my side it seems to affect EVERY request.

Cloudflare Status shows that Auckland is currently being rerouted:

I've noticed this from this morning. Lots of extra latency - I have been wondering why certain things are running so slow!

The whole AKL POP is rerouted, but only 2degrees' routing seems to be this bad. Other workmates that normally hit the AKL POP are now hitting the SYD POP, but they're seeing ~30-40 ms latency instead of 800+ ms latency.

I called 2degrees and was escalated to a technical supervisor. These routing issues are something that they are aware of (they've had a few other queries about it) and they should be working on it.

Most recently Spark traffic started going to Melbourne instead of Tokyo.

That was another issue that caused some headache for Spark users. MEL began experiencing some issues around 04:00 yesterday, presumably from the increase in traffic with SYD rerouting. At work, this meant some users were unable to log in until SYD was no longer rerouted (which also seemed to coincide with MEL no longer erroring out oftentimes).

Much of my personal time and work time this week has involved dealing with Cloudflare issues and rerouting, heh.

Probably just how routes work. I don't think Spark will peer with Cloudflare at any point.

Slingshot (Auckland UFB) routing to MEL at the moment it seems. Not too bad routing via Vocus AKL-SYD-MEL with pings of 38-44ms.
