Anyone else having poor upload speeds to 2 Degrees this week?

I've been having issues for the last few days at least, currently it is not too bad - just managing 150Mbps (where as uploads to all other NZ ISP's are 400Mbps+) .

Normally get 350Mbps upload from Spark Fibre to 2D Fibre.

I wouldn't say it is "poor" like I've seen before but it is degraded from what I can see. I have also noticed it to my work connection as of late.

It'll be great if Spark got with the times and peered freely like every other ISP (even including Vodafone these days).

True not poor atm but last few nights 11pm-ish have had to wait 10-20 seconds for an RDP session to render the remote desktop (15bit colour depth).

So seems to be intermittent as performing much better currently.

Yeah my work connection is terrible right now. Appears some packet loss is occurring from what I can see.

@morganbrowne one for you to pass onto the team with some urgency.

Thanks Michael, passing on now. It would also help if anyone logs to care as well. Cheers

Moved to the 2degrees subforum.

While the problem is technically Sparks fault due to them having to make their shareholders happy there does appear to be a problem that appears to be only affecting 2degrees customers (have tried today from a number of connections).

I was wondering why my work connection was running like rubbish (endpoint is on a "Spark" connection) and have been instead running a VPN to a server I have in Sitehost to do work.

Contemplating moving the Spark connection over to 2D to avoid this in future.

Upload performance does however seem to be back to near normal this morning.

I'm wondering if there is a party on either network smashing the link between Spark and 2degress / Vocus on weekdays recently. I noticed it is OK today but from what I remember the last time this happened it was also fine on weekends too. It was terrible yesterday.

I've had 2degrees support reach out to me asking more details and have linked them to this thread.

I think 2degrees cheap out a bit on their paid peering links with Vocus to reach Spark, Telstra, TPG etc.. some of their CG-NAT ranges have been sub optimally routed for a while too and we have seen threads in the last few months on latency issues to Aus.

Also something I have noticed not on 2degrees but another Vocus downstream ISP is that Spark seem to be hosting Level 3 Footprint CDN IPs like 219.88.200.158 for Windows Update which seem to be new should that traffic be going over Vocus paid peering / transit links, perhaps something for Talkiet or Sounddude ? I recall Level 3 CDN maxed out some of NZ ISPs' public peering links with gaming download traffic late last year before they de-peered in Feb/Mar. I don't think 2degrees managed to get a peering arrangement with Level 3 in the end so will need to use paid peering / transit links post depeering.

Looks like the problem is once again back. Heard nothing from 2degrees as per usual and to be perfectly honest getting rather tired of this.

Getting rather substantial packet loss to anything on Spark (including my jobs VPN).

In Auckland. Seems ok to me: https://www.speedtest.net/result/c/dc93fc94-ff4c-42b9-9cbd-cc02866ae2d4

~750 down (I need a better router to get higher) and ~450 up.

@nzkc That Speedtest you posted was a “multi” test not specifically to Spark. You need to Speedtest to Spark to see the impact but I note it is only mainly during peak times.

It has been especially bad today.
