Hi all,

I have tried searching the forum but haven't found a definitive answer since the acquisition.

Could somebody please confirm whether there are any discernible differences between Stuff Fibre vs Orcon apart from the supplied router (don't care about voice)? Is it the same support desk or different?

Stuff seems to have a better deal with their 4 months half price deal...

Cheers :)

Virtually no difference. It's all Vocus in the end!

New World and Park&Save are both FoodStuffs and there's quite a difference :)

If stuff fibre interested you. Sign up with this link and get 6 months half price :) it’s also only 1 year lock in, you still get the router etc. it’s a darn good deal.

Thanks - how do you find the service/speed?

I switched from Voyager to Stuff due to PPPoE and it slowing down my connection on Voyager. I'm really happy with Stuff's performance, I liked that they also gave you a reasonable router for free or you could upgrade.

I'm in the Kapiti Coast and had no issues, highly recommend them.

Such speed issues are your underspec hardware though and nothing to do with the RSP.

Off topic for the thread. While I don't disagree that my hardware wasn't helping, switching from a RSP that doesn't require PPPoE with the same hardware increased my speed to what I would have expected.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Off topic, but I am currently with Sky (Vocus network) who support both DHCP and PPPoE I get the same speeds either way so I would suggest your router was the issue, below is via PPPoE.

How does this work with the 30 days notice period required by Orcon for cancellation? My 12 month contract is up & I now realise there are better options than the $100/m I'm currently paying. Would Stuff work with Orcon to start their new contract after the 30 days is up?

When I swapped. When you sign up for stuff fiber you can select the change date. you select a date in the future i.e. 30 days and let that order be accepted. I actually did 35 days from memory, then I gave notice to Voyager (in my case). That all went great for me. Swap over occurred first thing on the scheduled date

I'm with Stuff Fibre. Their Asus modem is a PITA. It seems to hang about once a week... the lights are on, but no Wifi and/or Internet connection. It requires a power cycle to get it working again. :(

Orcon do mobile, doesn’t look like stuff do.

I’ve moved my wife’s and I’s personal mobile phones onto Orcon and have had zero problems. There’s a $10 credit per mobile on your broadband bill

I'm with Stuff Fibre too, and the supplied ASUS router has been working fine for us. I've only had to reboot it once this year - last weekend in fact - which I did because IPv6 connectivity kept dropping out for one PC (IPv4 was still working).

OTOH, we did experience frequent lock-ups with the (Slingshot-supplied) NF18ACV router in the months leading up to switching to Stuff.

Like @cyrl7 I am with Sky woth bandwidth provided by Vocus no issues here

However do feel Voyager have a better Internation capacity per customer ratio. I have seen better speedtest results to the UK/US

Fact: The routers they provide are not at all great, and are terrible for PPPoE also. Asus + Netgear routers are hot garbage really.

Personally, if you don't mind being on CG-NAT I think 2degrees has the better network between all the bigger players.

2degrees (cost for 1yr): $810 for Gigabit ($825 with router) (or $930 if you don't have mobile with them) with 1yr of free Prime Video.
Stuff Fibre (with referral): $855 for Gigabit ($870 with router) - do note that a referral gives the person who linked you 1mo free so see if a friend of yours has Stuff Fibre.
Skinny: $882 for Gigabit (3mo Free Promo).

Out of the providers - if you wanted the best router the award has to go to 2degrees for their Fritz!Box, 2nd is Skinny. But with most of the providers out there you'll note they come in at almost the same cost per year past the confusion of "half price" or "xx months free" - also note that all providers go up to full price afterwards.

Stay away from the ISP with "Republic" in the name.
