Thanks for posting! I've signed up. Great deal.

It says 'no contract' but if you take the free modem does that lock you into a contract?

Perhaps they could extend the offer to a nameless Auckland council Mayor so that he could stay home and save lives.

I qualify so I signed up yesterday morning, switchover from Spark happened this morning. The process was easy and seamless.

Using the AmpliFi HD system my wired speeds are even faster than they were before, going from about 876/460 to about 935/523.

The old connection gets cancelled when the new one is ported. If you call before it happens there is always the risk of a "trigger happy" help desk cancelling your connection sooner than planned.

Yes, some ISPs ask for a 30 days notice and you might have to pay a month for both but there's the risk stated above if you notify them earlier.

Here’s a good read on how to change ISP:

This is now extended to more workers:

Following the launch of its Free for the Frontline campaign, Slingshot is extending the offer to multiple additional vocations including supermarket workers, delivery staff, and MIQ workers.

The offer gives a wide range of workers keeping New Zealand running through the COVID pandemic six months free broadband, no strings, no hooks.

Already, free broadband has been provided to frontline workers including teachers, police, health professionals and members of the defence force. After requesting feedback from the public, Slingshot is making the offer available to bus drivers, courier and delivery drivers, MIQ staff, Post Office employees, supermarket, dairy or food bank workers, medical laboratory workers and doctors.

Head of Consumer and Business at Vocus, Taryn Hamilton, says the offer has been hugely successful. “We’ve had a surge of signups from the day we announced this. Having asked the public for recommendations for other professions and vocations with people who deserve a vote of thanks by getting free internet, we’re answering by making the offer available to many more who are at the forefront of New Zealand’s COVID response. It’s great to be able to give something back to those who help us day in and day out.”

Hamilton said the offer doesn’t have a contract, so there are no strings attached. People can simply get six months of free broadband, all they need to do is supply their own modem. The company is, he adds, inviting further suggestions and recommendations for others who should qualify for Free for the Frontline.

“We all benefit from the efforts of Frontline and essential workers, but not everyone is in a position to say ‘thank you’ with a token of appreciation. Slingshot is in that position, and we’re thrilled to give back and make life that bit easier for our frontline.”

The six-month free offer applies to Slingshot’s most popular plan – 100Mbps download, with unlimited data, when customers provide their own modem. “There is absolutely no contract and no hooks. But we are pretty confident that once our Frontline workers get to experience Slingshot, there won’t be any reason not to stay on board along with our other happy customers.”
