We ported two numbers to 2degrees earlier this week. Phone calls and SMS (national) working fine just a couple of hours after the porting.

I am not able to activate Messages RCS ("Chat") on 2degrees for one of the numbers at the moment. The feature worked while on a different network but was deactivated months ago and it was not active during porting.

The current status is "Setting up - trying to verify [number]"

The [Verify your number] button is greyed out after entering the mobile number and it goes back to enabled after a couple of hours (to try again).

Does routing to numbers ported to 2degrees get unstuck after a while or stay stuck in limbo?

Just tested the second ported number - it works but mine is still "setting up" and nothing happening.

@saltynz any input on this?

If you've just ported it can take up-to a week for porting tables to update so services outside of NZ can verify your number.

We often have this exact problem with our SMS gateway at work and have to tell customers to be patient. It normally sorts itself out a bit quicker than this however.

I think @linux may be able to add to this to be honest. The 2degrees staff can't comment on Geekzone currently due to the share offer stuff going on.

Interesting as two numbers ported at the same time, one is working now.

Mine was ported a month ago.

If that is the case you need to go to call 2degrees and ask them to check the SMS routing tables (I think! Don't quote me on this one). Sometimes ports will succeed but routing can still be a bit fishy and be routing SMS to the old provider.

I think out of the millions of customers we send SMS to from our platform there are very few that have this problem - it isn't common by any means. But I also don't have any experience with RCS being an Apple user myself but assume it is very similar to iMessage where either your phone sends a SMS to Google, or Google sends one back. I'd also disable WiFi calling during verification to 100% ensure you've given it the best shot possible of succeeding.

There is also always Signal ;)

@freitasm My 021 number had been on 2degrees for over 3 years and when I activated RCS it took about 2 or 3 weeks

All of a sudden it just started working out of the blue

This is amazing. Mine has decided to work all of the sudden. With no need of registration.

Same here. Took a few days for RCS as well as 2FA texts etc to work properly for my most recent port Vodafone > 2degrees. This seem to be more or less the norm for ports in my experience. I've ported to/from all three carriers around once a year for the last couple of years.

Mine took a bit longer, 2 months. This number has been on Spark, and in iPhones all its life. So, needless to say, I am chuffed with this development.

There needs to be an online form to notify SMS services of ported numbers or something (Much like notifying Apple to pull your number from iMessage when changing platform and not removing from imessage first)

I had drama's when we switched from Voda to 2Degrees that we couldn't get SMS messages from ASB for making online payments with Netcode. Was a nightmare at the time. We escalated with ASB and they were going to report it to the SMS Service they use and it started working on about day 3 or 4 after port. Unknown if it was the escalation or just normal.

How do you turn RCS on? Vodafone / Pixel 4a I didn't do anything and it seems to be working. The native Android Messages app sends RCS if it can, otherwise SMS.
