Today I'm getting 54.4Mbps down and 24.7Mbps upload, but on a working day it's typically around 40Mbps and if someone is watching Netflix or something else, I can't even hold a Teams video meeting.

Is that normal? Is that what I should be expecting?

Should I be using a network cable instead? The problem is my main laptop, a Nitro 5 Spin doesn't come with a network port. It is only about 3 meters from the router.

That is the same as asking how long is a bit of string! Far too many variables

You have not told us what plan speed you are on or connected to xDSL or Fibre or FWA etc......

What speed is your fiber plan?

Its always best to use a cable where possible

What device is providing your wifi? are you connected to a 2.4 or 5ghz network? what connection speed does your device show? (means little but can still help)

In this instance the ISP you are using likely has ZERO impact on your wifi speed

You have left out vital info for help!

Are you on VDSL or fibre or something else?

What speed plan are you on?

What does the Chorus address check say for speed you are likely to get for your location?

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

Given it looks like you are connected to 2.4 GHz wifi you need to determine if the router provides 5 GHz. If it does then use the 5 GHz.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

You could try a USB to Lan adapter cable to get away from potential WiFi issues.

The specs on Acer for the Nitro 5 Spin say WiFi is 802-11ac... no slower WiFi speeds mentioned.

A review says that the WiFi performance Tx 604Mbps and Rx is 519Mbps.

For best speed test results in your case you should be using the Ookla Windows speed test app. Not the browser speed test app.

Also try with various speed test servers.

For a 100/20 plan you are getting very good upload speed.

If you are having poor performance with apps on your laptop then you need to dig further into your laptop problems.

Which router is it? Would not expect this kind of performance from the NF18ACv... this feels like NF4V performance(and it was REALLY BAD).

Getting 54 Mbps on that Acer laptop? This sounds like the speed you would get using the very old 802.11g 2.4 GHz standard. Seeing the laptop specs I would say it's either WiFi interference or your router/WiFi access point is severely underpowered.

How much WiFi congestion is around you? Can you use a WiFi analyser app to see how many networks exist around and are interfering?

Thanks very much for the quick answers team. I contacted Orcon and they are sending me a NF18 modem to replace the NF4V modem and are confident this will solve my problem.

That will likely be what the issue is
