Hi Team,
Freshly connected to 2degrees but not getting full download speed out of my Asus AX router upload speeds are fine. I done some reading and it looks to be a perpetual issue for a number of customers.

But also reading the posts others seem to get great speeds with an Asus router, so this to me suggests a config issue?.

I have a full speed connection. My current speeds.
Downloads: 90ish Mbs
Uploads: 550ish Mbs

I had a crazy wait today to sort out user name and password over 3 hours on hold. So once connected was not wanting another wait re speed.

I did check with Enable in Christchurch, got confirmation the provisioning looked correct 1 Gbs down and 500 Gbs up.

So question what is the secret sauce for configuration. I'm keen to know the Asus config of people with fast download speeds.

I know I could get a Fritz box but really this should not be needed.

The Asus needs NAT acceleration (if I recall correctly), but the reality is you've got yourself a flash access point. They're just not very good as routers. If it's a recent purchase, I'd suggest taking it back and taking a look at this thread, as it's pretty spot on stuff.

If you insist on using the Asus, a model number would be a really solid start.

The other thing is, given your speed test, that's implying that you're being limited to 100Mbit on your incoming, which is odd as IIRC most providers overprovision their WAN speed, so if you have Gigabit LAN you'll still see around 100-110Mbps on speed tests. Possibly a profile issue at 2degrees end? Given that the connection has just come up, it might pay to give it a day or two, or if you can't suffer the wait, you will have to suffer the OTHER wait of calling them back and asking them to check your speed profile has been correctly provisioned.

Yeah PPPoE on ASUS routers are pretty bad but they do fine in IPoE.

However that absolutely looks like a profile issue and you should raise a ticket with 2degrees. May come right in a few days but should still raise it. But you're gonna hit a wall with that ASUS router on a PPPOE connection.

Guessing by OP they've got themselves a AX3000 or a AX68U or AX88U. Neither of these can do PPPOE 1gb.

Sad to see these systemic provisioning issues are not being resolved by 2degrees, if this is indeed a profile issue

They also provisioned my new Gigabit service as 100/500 instead of 1000/500, simple change on 2d's end but I had to endure all sorts of waffle over the phone about my router being 3rd-party and unsupported before they acknowledged it was a provisioning issue

Just a heads up if you ever get a static IP address and your service goes offline, 2d assigning the same static IP to multiple customers at once has also happened here multiple times (including to me)

I suspect this is an automation thing, and not a systematic issue. Default new connection profile is rate limited to 100 Mbit, and then the Gigabit profile comes in a later pass of automation. The upload is unaffected as they don't shape the upstream incoming from the client (as far as I can tell), only what they're sending out to the client from their core network.

Thanks Team,
The Asus is a cheapy did not want to commit to a better one until the AX standard had settled re WiFi 6e 6Ghz units now coming out.

So the little Ax55 has been doing great, I have used Asus for years due to them just working they have been reliable.

But that said open to options.

I'll see if the connection settles down before contacting 2degress, but seriously thank you team this information is gold.

UPDATE:

Decided to call 2Degrees first thing this morning and they said they were still provisioning the account that it may take a couple of days for the speeds to be set. So I guess hurry up and wait, the thread on Routers is really good.

That would be the Grandstream GWN7660

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.
