TLDR: My broadband internet is running at 100/100, not 200/100 (from Christchurch). Tried contacting support. 3 hour wait.

I signed up to the September deal, where you get Amazon prime, some credit and a reduced price for 12 months. Boy has 2degrees been a disappointment.

Obviously the first thing I did after being connected to 2degrees was to test the speed via speedtest. After reading this forum, I reckon it's not provisioned properly. So the solution is to give the call centre a call.

After waiting in the queue for about 3 hours, I had to convince them that my internet was setup correctly for speedtesting, plugged into ethernet, not on WiFi etc...

I'm using the same hardware as I did on Orcon which gave me 200/100 (not on PPPoE).

Still 2degrees have not solved this issue. A really poor start for a new customer...

@JohnTiler Are you using the speedtest website or the speedtest App and which server are you testing to?

Have you tried the Fritzbox 2degrees provides?

https://www.speedtest.net

Tested across 5 speedtest servers in the same city (Christchurch)

Same result. Tried 2 different routers, the Fritz! (supplied) and a Mikrotik CSR109

Try the Speedtest App and only test over Ethernet using the Fritzbox and test to the closest 2d server and let us know the result/s

Those tests are being run from a mobile device, I suspect Android.

First order of business, what actually IS your hardware configuration? It worked fine before isn't really valid for troubleshooting, we need to understand what you're using and how it's configured.

Secondly, what colour is the light on the ONT for the LAN port you're connected to? It looks a lot like you're on a 100mbit LAN connection rather than 1000Mbit. Never know, might've been fine and just degraded a little bit and now it isn't.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

93-95ish is usually a 100meg port somewhere in the chain. And the fritzs are ruined by europe and efficiancy standards so default to green ethernet BS being on by default. Go turn that off and see if it helps.

ONT connects to Fritz! via LAN1 (LAN1 light is green)

FRITZ (1Gbit, non green mode) connects to PC on LAN2 (1Gbps).

Also made sure the Fritz connection speed is set to 1000/1000, even though the 'Enable' connection is 200/100.

IPv6 disabled.

I'm quite certain that 2degrees has not provisioned my connection... I guess it's another call to the call centre tomorrow.

Please use the Fritz!Box that has been provided by 2degrees. Your MikroTik is underpowered for the job. Also always do Speedtests over Ethernet and not mobile.

It looks like you've got a 100Mbit link in the chain likely from your router to the ONT. Please replace the Ethernet cable here...

Lastly - please re-enable IPv6. That'll solve the issue with your other thread and is also totally unrelated to the problem. In-fact, factory-reset the Fritz!Box and leave everything as default with the exception of your SSID / Password.

When I first had my 2D connection, I found that provisioning was an issue too (getting 100mbps on a 1GBPS connection). They were quick to resolve it however.

Contact centre sadly is going to be your only option.

Yes, done a factory reset on the Fritz!Box. I always do speedtest over Ethernet, not mobile.

My ethernet from the ONT to the Mikrotik reports 1Gbps. Not sure how to view this info from the Fritz! though, but I'm very certain it'll be at 1Gbps.

Remove the Mikrotik and only use the Fritz!Box. The CSR series are really just smart switches / access points and not great as full routers.

I think you are correct here. It's sad that 2degrees is really bad, I do wish it was better. I swapped from Orcon after hearing Geekzone members say how much they love 2degrees broadband but I am regretting it quite a bit, especially on the support side of things, 2 hour waits etc.

Just take one look at their online reviews (2 out of 5, should have looked there first!):

And their facebook page says it all...

@michaelmurfy

I've swapped the routers in and out which is how I know the LAN cable is good for 1Gbps.

Where did you read that Mikrotik CSRs are underpowered?

I'll be very careful what you say here as you're already border-lining on soapboxing. No, they're not bad and I am a 2degrees Gigabit customer myself. There were major issues with Facebook earlier this week and even today where all providers call-centres got smashed by people not understanding that Facebook being down is not the ISP's fault.

Phone them tomorrow if you're confident you've tried all troubleshooting to verify the problem isn't on your end. But given you're running at 100/100Mbit it can indicate like I said above an issue where you have got a port somewhere running at only 100Mbit, or a profile issue. And be kind, providers have had a really rough week.

This is not bad service.

I've got experience with Mikrotik. The MIPS processor isn't that powerful for routing and is only good for around 300Mbit with limited rules. Seriously use the Fritz!Box, it is vastly superior.
