I've been an Orcon customer for about 8 years.

Since being on Fibre I've had continuing issues whenever swapping routers (something I do somewhat frequently). DHCP does not give an IP address and the new device sits trying, doing nothing.

Every time this has happened it's always been a case of calling and getting an IPoE? session reset done and then things are away going again.

This time (today), they don't seem to be willing / able to do it. Telling me I'm potentially without internet for a few days.

Does anyone else have these issues swapping routers with Orcon? I'm very much done with it and thinking of moving to a PPPoE based provider.

Are you 100% sure you have configured VLAN10?

Why are you frequently switching routers? In a good setup, once you've got something configured you just leave it.

If you're doing home lab stuff perhaps it is easier doing a double-NAT for your testing instead?

I second the question re why swopping routers - seems a strange thing to do?

On an olde cable connection in the UK, connections were also tied to mac address of the router, so you had to spoof mac address when replacing router if you didn't want to wait for DHCP expiry (or something that typically took overnight, memory may be wrong re DHCP).

Thats not how it works in NZ the ASID (ID of the connection) determines the IP address allocation (for most RSPs) with the exception of 2degrees and voyager which use a predefined username and password.

The OP should have been able to plug in a new router and got a lease in the WAN

The system only allows one session at a time. Even though you turn your modem off, the DHCP session remains up. This way you keep your IP address etc when power cycling the modem etc, or even if the BNG on our side resets.

However this does have the issue where if you swap modems, you do need to wait until the previous session times out.

I would in that case suggest the OP use PPPoE the connection would drop at the BNG when the PPPoE drops

Still a bit confused why changing routers would upset DHCP as isn’t this based on ASID and the mac address is irrelevant?
