I have an orcon+ ADSL2 service using a homehub and Apple Xtreme.  Over the past months I have noticed how frequently the connection drops.  Two weeks ago it seemed that the connection was dropping every 5 minutes. Despite numerous calls to Orcon, port resets, firmware upgrade (I think) and a hard reset the problem has not improved.  I am not a techie so find it difficult to challenge what they tell me.  I have copied the log from the homehub:

BazNZ: Hi Guys,
I too have been having trouble with constant
dis-connections in the past few days (never happens normally). I am
also using the Orcon Home Hub which I have now discovered is the
problem. O.K it has been warm here in the past 2-3 days but nothing
extraordinary. I have concluded the Orcon Home Hub is badly designed.
The air vents are underneath the box!Surprised
What happens when warm air gets sucked into these vents?...it heats up
in the home hub box and we all know what happens when air gets hot...it
rises! HELLO ! no escape for the hot air ? The Orcon Home Hub was very
very warm to touch so to prove my finding's I plugged in my well
designed Dynalink RTA 1335 4 port modem/router (with air vents
underneath(entry) and air vents on the top(exit) of the box. I have not
had one dis-connection since ! So Orcon will be receiving there Home
Hub back in the next few days. I guess I should tell them of my
findings ?

I've been having the same problem with Orcon's Home Hub the past 5 days. Read More Here....

I guess this is the same system as the other thread...
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=82&TopicId=29290

So maybe the same cause to both problems?
E.g. Interference / Crosstalk - possibly from the DSLAM in Chorus cabinet 500m up the road.

Thanks Alexx...I have been following that last thread with much interest. Chorus completed a Cabinet less than 300m from my place in September. I was getting outstanding speeds and next to no latency gaming offshore. Since then it has degraded to frustration point. I'm on Orcon's Purple ADSL MAX/MAX plan which I guess is the copper Telecom Wholesale Network. I live in Hamilton so therefor I can't receive ADSL2+ from Orcon. The cabinet up the road I believe is Te Rapa TRV/N Pukete which according to the Chrous website says  Planned Migration Date FEB 09 - Cabinet Migrate d? NO - Copper Feeder? YES...whatever this all means? Now my question is...What ISP is going to give me the best service for gaming on International Server's with lowest amount of Latency? I will move tommorrow. Wether now or in the up-coming months... What provider will give me the best service? Looking like..dare I say it...TELECOM !

Looks like your cabinet should have gone live on 1 Jan - see http://www.chorus.co.nz/cabinet-notices  Noticed any changes?

TRV/N Live? REALLY? Where do you find this info? I haven't noticed any changes except constant disconnections from my Orcon Home Hub which started on December 29th and have put down to heat due to the home Hub's bad design. Since I plugged back in my Dynalink RTA 1335 I've had no disconnections at all. Apart from that no speed increase's same old packet loss and latency gaming?

Open the latest Cabinetisation Notice and Cabinetisation Forecast spreadsheet - at this time: Nov 2008 Cabinetisation Notice and Cabinetisation Forecast (updated Dec 08) and search for Te Rapa. You should find what you are looking for in row 2201.
