Twice now when talking to my sister on her orcon line there have being times when I have heard dtmfs when she has not being pressing them.

My end is italk/2talk via asterisk to a ata so it may be from there instead, but has anyone else had this happen. Never happened when she was with telecom.

Having been a VoIP user for almost 6 years now, I have to say that this is an infrequent annoyance which seems to afflict all VoIP systems to a greater or lesser extent.

An in-house H.323 VoIP system I started using in 2003 suffers from this quite frequently, almost always when women's voices are involved. I also noticed this issue when using iTalk for about 6 months during 2006. VFX is affected the least of any VoIP system I have tried, but it still happens occasionally. Currently I am using Kiwilink VoIP which is based on 2Talk and it happens there as well, although quite infrequently, at a similar rate to VFX.

To clarify:

- It usually only happens with women's voices, although I have occasionally noticed it with male voices as well

- It doesn't happen that often, maybe only once or twice per 5 minutes of conversation, with just a brief burst of DTMF being generated

- During the time I used iTalk, I played around with the DTMF settings in my ATA to try and minimise the frequency of occurrence of this problem. I found that by using AVT or Auto DTMF Transmission rather than In-Band, it helped to reduce this effect. Setting ABCD Detection and ABCD Playback to NO also helped.
